Scout Comics and I share similar tastes as the publisher keeps scooping up books I’ve backed on Kickstarter. The latest is Orson Welles: Warrior of the Worlds from writer Milton Lawson and artist Erik Whalen. The series follows the famed entertainer and filmmaker supposing that some of his fantastical tales were real including the legendary War of the Worlds radio broadcast. After Welles’ first interaction with aliens, he joins an organization that defends Earth from extraterrestrial threats.
The story structure is inspired by Citizen Kane. After Welles dies, he leaves a lifelong friend and filmmaking collaborator Paula with a clue that leads her to search for answers as to the many mysteries left behind. Paula finds herself in over her head as adventure gives way to secret government agencies, laser guns, and powerful alien technology.
Writer Milton Lawson says:
I’m a devoted cinephile and a long-time fan of Orson Welles, it’s a dream come true to be able to tell a story starring Welles. I’m thrilled by the opportunity to work with Scout Comics. Metalshark Bro and Canopus are comic titles that have inspired me with their inventiveness and ability to use the comics medium to tell imaginative, original stories.
No specific release date has been set for Orson Welles: Warrior of the Worlds, but we’ll be on the lookout.
