AppleTV+ is still looking for its “killer app” — a television show to make the premium streaming service worth the money people are expected to pay once the free promotions end. And based on this new teaser for their upcoming Foundation, it’s clear they believe they have found their very own Game of Thrones.
Based on the novels of late science fiction author (and alleged sexual harasser) Isaac Asimov, Foundation “chronicles a band of exiles on their monumental journey to save humanity and rebuild civilization amid the fall of the Galactic Empire.” It’s a big saga, as executive producer David S. Goyer states in the teaser, spanning across a thousand years. Presumably, the first season will focus on the first Foundation novel with subsequent years — if any occur — moving on to subsequent stories with new characters, casts, and settings.
The cast for this season includes Jared Harris as Hari Seldon, Lee Pace as Brother Day, Lou Llobell as Gaal, Leah Harvey as Salvor, Laura Birn as Demerzel, Terrence Mann as Brother Dusk, and Cassian Bilton as Brother Dawn.
Besides Goyer, the series is produced by Robyn Asimov, Josh Friedman, Cameron Welsh, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross. And considering Welsh brought a lot of quality to the short-lived Krypton, we hope he can weave some of his magic onto the fantastic looking Foundation. The series’ actual quality will remain a mystery until it debuts sometime in 2021.
