Diamond Comics Distributors and Alliance Game Distributors are continuing the “Back the Comeback” campaign to support local comic book and game stores as they begin to safely reopen, restart, and rebuild in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. This initiative is entering its final two phases with a charity auction designed to raise relief funds for shops and in-store retailer promotions.
The auction will begin on July 4th and run through July 18th featuring a wide range of items donated by artists, publishers, game designers, and friends of the industry. Steve Geppi has donated items valued at approximately $50,000. Items include original art like an oil on canvas painting called “The Ice Queen” by Frank Cho as seen in his book Drawing Beautiful Women and an uncut sheet of playing cards from the original Magic: The Gathering (circa 1993). The full list of items will be available upon launch. Fans will be able to bid through DIGAuction.com. Winning bidders will be able to select which charity they wish to support from a list of options, all of which support comic and game retailers.
In-store retailer support is on the way too as comic publishers have gotten in on the Back the Comeback campaign, putting the logo on the variant covers for select titles such as Empyre #1 from Marvel Comics. IDW Publishing, Image Comics, and AC Comics will also have the logo on select titles.
