Recently, Crystal Dynamics went into detail on the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers video game. The full stream above offered information on the story’s villain, M.O.D.O.K., and how he’s working with AIM to keep super-powered individuals from ruining the world. Along the way, they teased combat with enemies like the Abomination, the Super-Adaptoid, and other classic Marvel villains.
The initial footage also gave us a glimpse at some of the Hero Missions, including one in which Thor battles against some robots alongside the other members of the team. But later footage gave us an idea of what the co-op missions would be like, with our heroes working together to battle against the forces of AIM across a wider variety of locations. This aspect of the presentation went a long way towards making Avengers feel like something “real” rather than a series of QTE events the initial E3 trailer showed.
The presentation also touched on the customization, which includes a variety of costumes inspired by the comics and ways to augment each character’s playstyle.
The game appears to be full of fanservice, with references to SHIELD characters like Nick Fury and Maria Hill, but also nods to lesser-known characters like Phil Sheldon. While they’re not going into detail yet with a post-launch roadmap, we know they will introduce plenty of new heroes each with their own character arcs and villains, as well as new areas for free.
Marvel’s Avengers will be available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Google Stadia on September 4th.
