One oversight in Showtime’s Halo series has been corrected: Cortana will have her proper voice.
When the show first revealed its cast list, actor Natascha McElhone was cast as Cortana, the omnipresent AI in the Halo universe and the virtual companion Microsoft added to its various platforms. But according to IGN, the delay in producing the series changed McElhone’s schedule, necessitating a new Cortana. Enter Jen Taylor, the original voice of the character across many games and Microsoft operating systems.
McElhone will remain on the series as Cortana’s creator, Dr. Catherine Halsey. It is unclear if Taylor will also play the holographic version of Cortana or just provide its voice. Nevertheless, the change will no doubt bring a further air of authenticity to the series, a project long in the works.
Pablo Schreiber stars as Master Chief with Danny Sapani as Jacob Keyes, Olive Gray as Miranda Keyes, Bokeem Woodbine as Soren-066, and Shabana Azmi as Admiral Margaret Parangosky. Though the series will chronicle the war between humanity and the Covenant, it is unclear if it will be a straight adaptation of the Halo games or a re-imagining a al Netflix’s The Witcher.
Also unclear: a premiere date. Though expected to go into production soon, the rigors of post production could keep Halo off screens for sometime.
