Classic Valkyrie Stands Tall In New ‘King In Black: Return Of The Valkyries’ Variant Cover

by Tony Thornley

When Knull reaches Earth, he’s going to face one of the most powerful armies in the Marvel Universe. However, one Valkyrie in particular has been missing until a new variant cover was announced.

Created by Jason Aaron, Torunn Grønbekk, and Nina Vakueva, King In Black: Return of the Valkyries is a continuation of Jane Foster’s story as the former Thor steps up to battle the elder god Knull’s forces. To do so, she’ll need help. She’ll find it in the X-Men’s Dani Moonstar, Hildegarde of Asgard and a new mysterious Valkyrie. United, this force will prove to be the most powerful army the universe has seen.

However Brunhilde, the Valkyrie best known across Marvel publishing history, is glaringly absent. Thankfully Artgerm has given us a glance at the fan favorite for King In Black: Return of the Valkyries #1.

“To match the epic, dark, horrific madness that is King in Black, we’re bringing the Valkyries into uncharted territory, leading up to a battle only they can fight. This is going to be a spectacular adventure, one I can’t wait for you all to read,” Grønbekk said in a recent interview. “I’m also tremendously excited to work with Nina on this book. The script is filled with weird and terrifying stuff, and she’s taking it in strides — her work is mindblowing!”

King In Black: Return of the Valkyries #1 will hit stores in January!
