Adam Rayner To Play Post-Crisis Morgan Edge On ‘Superman & Lois’

When Morgan Edge makes his debut on Superman & Lois, he will be decidedly different.

Deadline reports Tyrant‘s Adam Rayner will play the character in the upcoming CW series. This version of the character is described as an “intelligent, eloquent and impassioned self-made mogul who’s innate ability to motivate is the means to his success and others’ demise.” It suggests he will once again be a villain, as he is generally portrayed, but it is always possible to introduce him as a more neutral antagonist trying to buy The Daily Planet in a story which would probably hit too close to home for the AT&T owned Warner Bros. Television.

Arrowverse watchers will remember Edge as a recurring character during Supergirl‘s third season. At the time, he was played by Adrian Pasdar with some ambiguity — or at least as much as is possible when utilizing Pasdar’s bad guy screen persona. Of course, that season occurred before “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” which means events played out differently and Edge never had the countenance of Pasdar. He may not have even crossed paths with Kara (Melissa Benoist), Lena (Katie McGrath), or the rest of the National City gang.

As it happens, the Crisis is a good way to re-introduce spent characters. If The Shade wasn’t getting a spotlight over on Stargirl, we’d suggest this mechanic to give him a better shot on The Flash.

Of course, it does leave one to wonder how many more Supergirl storylines will be augmented for the sake of re-using a character in the Post-Crisis landscape. Will Maxwell Lord suddenly reappear with a new face and story? Now that we think of it, maybe a handful of Supergirl Season One character could be re-imagined, but we hope Superman & Lois spends more time establishing its own mythology than cannibalizing Supergirl for parts.

Superman & Lois debuts February 23rd on The CW.
