Bruce Wayne Meets O-Sensei In ‘Batman: Soul Of The Dragon’ First Look

by Erik Amaya

As is now something a tradition for Bruce Wayne in his training days, this clip from Batman: Soul of the Dragon sees the young Bruce climbing to a far-off monastery. Fans of Batman Begins or aficionados of Nanda Parbat will recognize the climb. Unfortunately for Bruce, the reception he receives at the front door is just the first test administered by O-Sensei (James Hong)

Soul of the Dragon sees Batman (David Giuntoli), Richard Dragon (Mark Dacascos), Lady Shiva (Kelly Hu), and Ben Turner (Michael Jai White) teaming up to face off against the Kobra Cult in story clearly inspired by Enter the Dragon and any number of grindhouse kung-fu movies from the era. Additional voices include Josh Keaton, Grey Griffin, Chris Cox, Erica Luttrell, Robin Atkin Downes, Patrick Seitz, Jamie Chung and Eric Bauza.

Sam Liu directs from a script by Jeremy Adams which tips its hat to the dearly departed Denny O’Neil, who passed away earlier this year and co-created Dragon, Turner, Shiva, and O-Sensei. As we’ve said before, this mix of O’Neil’s martial arts creations is so inspired, we feel like a live action CW or HBO Max series should follow it up; especially if it means White can keep playing Bronze Tiger, a role he too infrequently played on Arrow.

Batman: Soul of the Dragon comes to digital platforms on January 12th and on disc formats January 26th.
