DC Showcase 2021-2022 Short Film Slate Announced

The DC Showcase short film program will continue.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment announced Thursday the new slate of shorts to be included across upcoming DC Animated Movie releases through 2022. Each will focus on one of the following DC Comics characters: Kamandi, The Losers, Blue Beetle and John Constantine.

Each film will be produced by Rick Morales, with Matt Peters and Paul Giacoppo handling directing and scripting duties, respectively, on Kamandi: The Last Boy on Earth! Based on that title, we’re going to assume it will skew pretty faithful to the  Jack Kirby comics of the same name. The short will arrive alongside Justice Society: World War II later this spring. Further details about the subsequent shorts will be revealed as they, and their accompanying features, get closer to release.

As it happens, we’re quite fond of the DC Showcase program as it allows for characters like The Losers a chance at the spotlight without the worry and expense of a full feature release. They also allow for the individual writers and directors to experiment with different tones and techniques. It’s an impressive compromise between the art and commerce involved in keeping the DC Animated Movie range alive.

Kamandi: The Last Boy on Earth! is scheduled for release in Spring 2021.
