Will we see Amon Tomaz in Black Adam after all?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, young actor Bodhi Sabongui will appear in the upcoming DC Film in a “key,” but undisclosed role. The film is, of course, based on the Fawcett Comics Captain Marvel villain who appeared in one issue of The Marvel Family during the company’s heyday. Created by Otto Binder and C.C. Beck, the story of the Wizard Shazam’s failed Egyptian champion took on a major expansion when the Captain Marvel characters became part of the DC Comics library. Thanks to writers like Roy Thomas and Jerry Ordway, Black Adam transformed from a simple villain into an antihero with noble intentions, but extremely questionable methods.
Dwayne Johnson has been set to star as the character for over a decade, but it’s only in the last few years that the project coalesced with Jaume Collet-Serra as director and a script from Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. The cast includes Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone and Marwan Kenzari in another undisclosed role. Sarah Shahi will also appear in a part most assume to be a version of Adrianna Tomaz, although that has not been confirmed.
But that likelihood leaves us to speculate Sabongui will play her younger brother Amon. Introduced in 52, the character received powers from Black Adam after he and Adrianna found him in a re-education camp. It is unclear if similar events will play out in the film, but the building of a Black Adam family is one of several plots the project can appropriate from the comics.
Black Adam opens on July 29th, 2022.
