    Custom Sketches And Commissioned Art

What would a convention be without a few artists feverishly sketching away as fans crowd around to watch? Unfortunately, one of the drawbacks to COMICON.com is that you can't personally watch your favorite artists hammer out one masterpiece after another (I'm thinking positive here, folks). However, you can still have sketches done as per your request for about the same prices as at any other con. The immediate advantage that I can see to doing sketches this way is that I can eliminate the few duds that always seem to crop up and insure fans that they'll always get a decent sketch for their money. Also, it'll be easier to do the sketches in india ink, a much better, more permanent medium as compared to marker sketches (although there are many fine quality, permanent markers out there these days).

I am willing to do sketches of all the characters I've ever drawn, including Swamp Thing , Abby, John Constantine, Miracleman, and the many other secondary characters in those titles. Also, Sandman, Death, Batman, The Spectre, Tarzan, and even Superman among many others. I'm pretty much game on almost anything, except most of the typical superhero stuff, especially if it's of the multiple figure, super-group variety. I will, as a matter of conscience, turn down such requests. I'll probably ask that you provide reference if your request is for a character that I'm unfamiliar with since I don't have the time to dig up refs myself.

For the more, ahem, refined collectors out there, be aware that I am known to produce exceptionally nice sketches of nude women from time to time. You will, of course, need to be eighteen or older to obtain such a thing. Under eighteen can submit a signed permission note from Ma and/or Pa with payment (forgeries will be accepted since I won't know who the hell signed it anyway). These are tastefully done pieces, so don't expect OR request any unadulterated smut from me (I'm not in the porn business here, y'know).

All sketches will be done on 8 1/2"x 11" two-ply plate bristol in ink or pencil with general pricing as follows:

    • one figure or large head shot: $40.00 to $60.00 postpaid.
    • two figures or large head shots: $50.00 to $70.00 postpaid
    • three figures or headshots: $60.00 to $ 100.00 postpaid.

Prices can go up in $5.00 increments, according to your requested specifics and the complexity of each drawing. There is a three figure or head limit per sketch.

Sketches of a larger size (up to 11"x 17") can be negotiated on an individual basis and for those of you on a tight budget, I can do smaller 4"x 5" quickies for $20.00 postpaid.

Those brave-hearted souls who wish to trust me with their sketchbooks can certainly do so at their own risk, but please heed this bit of advice. First, you should never leave your sketchbook in the hands of any artist anywhere without first making sure that you've legibly written your name and address on the inside front cover (labels are great for this). Second, I recommend that you send it USPS First Class Priority and insure it for whatever value you believe it's worth (both ways). A good sketchbook, especially if it's loaded, can be worth many hundreds of dollars. It will cost you a bit more but, as they say, better safe than sorry. Prices for sketchbooks are the same as for loose sketches, depending on the size of your book and what you're requesting. I will take every bit of care with your sketchbook once it's in my hands, but I cannot be responsible for anything that may happen during mailing. You must assume the risk.

I will do my best to turn your sketch around A.S.A.P., but it may take up to a month or more depending on how my work schedule is going and also taking mail time into consideration.

If you are interested in commissioning something fancier than a black-and-white sketch, I will consider your request. I'm willing to do full-color sketches, with prices starting at $75.00 for 8 1/2"x 11" and going up from there depending on size and complexity. Also, special commisioned pieces can be done although these things can get quite pricey depending on what you're interested in having me do. Contact me via E-mail with your request and we'll take it from there.
