Nope they never had usb in the US. You can get an A3, if you live in europe or australia. I bought one when I first saw it on the web. $85 is what I paid, which included shipping. Another company that had one was Plustek but they wanted $300 for it. As it is Scanmaker makes one for around a grand. Hey guys i just found a plustek scanner A3 mdl.here's the link http://www.scanneroutlet.com/soho_scanners_plustek.htm#A3-I

How do you know that?

Well, all that aside, the question is: Does anyone still make a tabloid-size scanner for less than, say, $300-400 in the U.S.?

And since I use a Mac, I guess that limits my choices even further. Oh, well. The Plug-n'-Scan I use now is OK... and it was dirt cheap.

You'd think that since letter-size scanners come in such a range of prices (anywhere from $40 to $1500,) there'd be a similar range of prices for the larger sizes. How much more does a couple inches of glass, metal and plastic cost? And what are you paying for when you pay $1500 dollars for a letter-size scanner?

Just wondering.

Drew

It's not the cost of the materials that drives the price so high; it's the lack of demand for the product.

I'm curious... anybody have a clue how many comic books are sent to the printer on disk?

Printer preference aside, what's the advantage to reducing and then scanning in actual size?

I bought my Tabloid scanner from Mustek around three years ago. Don't you think if they had one(USB A3 Scanner) for the US market I wouldn't have snatched up a few? Mine cost $85 with shipping. It's a SCSI scanner and we got a Parallel port one for work. They do offer a USB A3 scanner outside of the US. If you can convince them(Mustek) to sell you one, let me know. Funny, yesterday i went looking and found the Plustek(link in last post) but I also found the same one I have being sold in Australia, for, get this, $3500. Can you believe that? It isn't lack of demand that brings prices up it's lack of demand that lowers prices, in the hopes a lower price will change your mind in your view of the product. The reason tabloid scanners are so expensive is simple, the people that need them are willing to pay the cost. Mostly pro- graphics people. The one I have is good but not great, but as long as I can scan my Full page artwork , in without splicing, I don't care. http://www.studioaries.com
