Why do so many SERIOUS writers, with no professional experience, post here with offers to bestow the gift of working on their SERIOUS work at no cost to them?

Do they think that SERIOUS artists lay about, having no SERIOUS work of their own, waiting desperately for the chance to work on their SERIOUS project?

Do not SERIOUS art supplies cost money?

Does SERIOUS art take a great deal of time and effort, as well as talent?

I mean if your going to work for free, shouldn't the other person bring something more to the table than the privelege to work with a unknown, on an untested project, with an untested albeit SERIOUS writer?

Maybe they should post SERIOUS samples of their work, with their call to action, so we can see how SERIOUS they are?

Harshly put, but you have a more than valid point. However, it surely can't apply to me and MY project, because MINE will SERIOUSLY blow every other comic book out of the water. SERIOUSLY! (Er...I'll also pay for art supplies, so at least I'm not all bad.)

I kid you not.

and for the record - the "serious" bit was more a reference to the dramatic portion of writing I do.. as opposed to cartoony/superhero stuff.

trying to match that up is one of the hardest things I've had to do. But I'm getting some leads thanks to my post here and on other websites.

so, THANKS GUYS!

take care and all that jazz. maybe I'll kick some samples up on here soon for ya. I need all the Constructive Criticism I can get. I know I'll get atleast half of that here.

Any serious writer will offer to do the work of putting the proposal together, contacting the editors, pay the postage to send the proposals and be the point of contact, thus freeing the serious artist to just be... the serious artist.

Oh, yeah, and serious writing can take just as much time (though it exercises certain muscles differently) as serious art, though the initial cost in materials is higher for the artist. And should the proposal sell to a publisher, the artist will make a seriously higher page rate than the writer.

The writer's time is every bit as valuable as the artist's.

Hope this answers your question.

Best,

Jason

Sorry, not meaning to be harsh. I was going for funny or at least sarcasm, with a whimsical smile.

The question was directed to artists, yet many writers have responded, and some have really betrayed the fact that they just don't get it.

Let me try a different approach...

Would a song writer seek out musicians to play write the music for his lyrics, play & record the music, so the writer might solicit a record deal from a label, all without paying the musicians, at no cost to them?
