Anyone have an update on the new Creative Illustration printing? It was available for preorder on Amazon but has now disappeared. All that's listed are the old used copies. Delayed? Canceled?

I know. I'm really looking forward to this book too. I hope it works out.

Thank you for your email regarding the Titan Books reprint of Andrew Loomis’ Creative Illustration. Unfortunately, due to rights issues, the release date of this book has been postponed until further notice. We will update Amazon and other retailers with the new publication date as soon as possible and apologise for the disappointment and inconvenience. In response to your second enquiry, we have tentative plans to reprint the entire Loomis series, however this depends on the fate of the aforementioned rights. Hope this answers your questions.

The rights holders have been notorious with keeping this book from seeing print. a few publishers have tried over the years and have not been able to get the rights. I think Walt Foster books have been able to use excerpts of figure drawing for all it's worth, but they cotnain no useful information included in the original book.

I did a little digging and it's said the Loomis family hasn't been intrested in promoting his legacy as an artist.

IMO, the family seems to want to erase Loomis legacy as an artist. With the exception of a handful of paintings which loomis gave to a neighbor the family holds most of his paintings. They refuse to lend them for exhibits or to grant rights to have his educational books reprinted.

Don't expect to see this book reprinted.

That's sad to hear. I just found a few samples of Loomis's work online, and it is all excellent.

I wonder what the family's motivation is, but i don't imagine we'll ever really know.

If you look hard enough you can find the whole thing in pdf form online.

I have digital copies (but thanks for bringing it up) but I'd much prefer to have a bound paper copy at hand.

The digital copies i found with the exception of the chapter on Line which is clearly reproduced are horrible quality, chunks of the text cannot be read, the pictures on tone are virtually useless.

For what it's worth - this appeared on the ConceptArt.org thread from a "jmloomis"

By the way, I am his granddaughter and all of the copies of the Andrew Loomis books I have I paid hundreds for on eBay.

Iiiinteresting. Head & Hands scheduled for October. Still no Creative Illustration or Fun With a Pencil, though. I have PDF's, but... well, you know.

Successful Drawing is scheduled for release in May (solicited in January's Previews, in fact). The inside back flap on Drawing the Head & Hands says Fun With a Pencil and Creative Illustration are coming soon.

All of these books are currently available in hardcover facsimile editions:

- Drawing the Head and Hands
- Figure Drawing For All It's Worth
- Successful Drawing
- Creative Illustration

The final significant Loomis book, Fun With a Pencil, is currently available in paperback, but the hardcover edition is scheduled for release on April 2nd.

All of these books are reasonably priced at around $25 apiece on Amazon.
