If the old curmudgeon has already admitted to lurking and posting under false names at various sites, isn't it reasonable to assume that he does so at this site where his name does come up fairly frequently?
If pattern holds true, and often in life it does, it's highly likely the gentleman posts here but almost only on threads that directly relate solely to John Byrne. If he used a pseudonym here it's unlikely he'd use it much at his own site except on rare occasions to try to make a point solely about this site.
Now let's look at people who post on this site who might fit the bill. Is there anyone here who posts almost solely to Byrne threads, almost never posts at the Byrne site, is arrogantly imperious and rude, avoids answering direct questions in the way that Byrne does, lies when it's convenient, and seems to know what labyrinthian meaning Byrne had in mind when he says something that all other posters look objectively at it and take at face value?
Apparantly some folks (thank you Lawson) have done the research and have seen that a gentleman using Pally's name actually has a credit history in Las Vegas and a trackable life. However...
Is the person who currently posts on this site as Paul W. Sondersted actually the real Paul W. Sondersted, or is somebody else using the man's name to do his dirty work? To be honest there's something oddly dishonest and intolerant about his posts that makes the persona seem two-dimensional and artificial (not unlike the way Byrne writes). I find it reasonable to think, given the facts cited by JWyatt above, that the oft scoffed at connection between Pally and Byrne might actually have something to it.

Why would anyone join a forum where there are restrictions on your conversations?
Lurking at the Byrne clubhouse is like watching your grown neighbor have a teaparty with his dolly in his back yard. Yeah, you know you shouldn't watch but it's hard to turn away. Never said anything about joining the forum, but when you do & behave in a mature & well-thought out manner, there are no restrictions. And I guess using the word "cowardice" was wrong...I should have used both "childish" & "immature".

Paul, you're a hoot. Nah, he's clearly seen it. Rather it's proof that he's either incredibly self-disdeceptive and/or incredibly dishonest. I tend to think it's the latter but I'm leaving room for reasonable doubt.

As someone who has been banned by Byrne (a badge of honour I wear with pride), I can testify to the fact that Byrne doesn't really want anyone to disagree with his worldview. He likes to tout the idea that he enjoys vigourous debate but he has never shown an indication that this is the case. I can't recall a single occassion where he has said that someone arguing against him has a point or he can see where that person is coming from.
Byrne sees the world in simple black and white. He is right, you're wrong. He reminds me of me when I was 18 and like many an 18 year old I thought I knew it all. However, a few months at Uni and I grew up and realised that I didn't know it all. Byrne doesn't seem to have to gone through something similar. If only he would chill and recognise that he doesn't have to right all the time and to accept the fact he might be wrong. It is really quite liberating.
IJ makes a point about Byrne posting under another name on other boards. I've thought this as well - when Rod Odom use to post a lot at Newsarama, some of those posts read like Byrne, albeit less belligerent. Many people think Odom is Joe Zhang but Odom came across as a lot cleverer than that idiot. Maybe Odom was a collective deal, whichever member of cult was on call that day, had to go and fight the good fight.
Steve
PS You were all a bit cruel to Aric, I mean using facts to substantiate your arguments. That's wicked!

Why was Rodrigo Baeza banned? HIs posts were mature and well-thought-out.
