But don't you dare forget, Manley, I am now officially the number one online cartoonist, and as such you do not the have right to even think of liking another comic more than the sheer brilliance that is www.fuckscottkurtz-uptheassofcourse.com. Or i'll crush you by dropping my 60-foot dick on your house. Damn straight.
Damn, I can't believe I actually clicked that link. Seems like a neat idea (sorry Scott, but funny is funny). By the way: the god-who-walks-as-man named Steve Rude has, except for sporatic projects, gotten the hell out of comics. A lesson for us all. P.S. I still don't have an official website, but I DID eat again today!

wha, is this still going on? The funniest part about all this is that i had no opinion of Scott, the man(just his strip; check my original post), before this thread. But by reacting in such a juvenile, egocentric, bitchy manner to the fact that he might not possibly be the god of comics in one person's opinion, Scott has shown me the light. Thanks, Scott!
Naw, it doesn't make me feel cool to hate you, it makes me sad that all a man of your "stature" can do is induce people into hating you. Pathetic. Take a day off from your gag-a-thon and get some psychiatric help. you'll thank me.

You know, I spoke up for Keenspot a while ago, I think I'll do the same for Scott Kurtz. For a variety of reasons, he's managed to make a living doing something he obviously loves. He's been pretty open here and in the past about how much he makes, and he's not raking it in. Yes, he can be abrasive in public if provoked, but that's true of a lot of people and I suspect it comes with the sense of humor he needs to produce PVP. He is making a respectable start at a business that doesn't have clear guidlines for success and I give him props for that. I'm getting tired of unwarrented spite and criticism thrown at the few people who are trying to make a business out of comics on the web. (Warrented spite and criticism is always OK) "Kurtz is an egomaniac" and "Keenspot is the evil empire" stuff is getting pretty lame. Regards, Tim Broderick http://oddjobs.keenspace.com

I have learned over the last four years that most if not all of my true critics are other webcartoonists. At least the outspoken ones.
People who just don't like the strip, usually don't bring it up unless asked. They never go out of their way to just attack me.
My suspicion is that goat, who's conveniently a very anonymous poster, is a webcartoonist. Possibly, one of the very cartoonists also posting in this thread.
When you get to a certain point of success, people want to take you don't a peg. That's the nature of nature. That's life.
And hey, we're all artists right? We're not physics majors. We're passionate and emotional.
The biggest element to all this explosive banter is that you can't go to the newspaper, or monster.com and look up "cartoonist." You can't go to school, or apply for this job. It has to be created from thin air, and there is a very finite number of occurances. If a person makes it, you almost feel like that's one less chance you have yourself. I used to feel dread whenever I would see a new comic strip in the newspaper. I would be in the middle of putting together a syndication package and stop. Why bother? They just picked up the ONE strip for the year.
So I understand it. I feel it. I participate in it. Because once you're here you feel a strong need to hang on to what you have almost more voraciously than you sought to obtain it.
I once overheard my dad talking to a neighbor who was also an artist. "My son has notions of becoming a cartoonist some day." he said. "Is something like that even possible?"
My nieghbor replied "Frank, people that acomplish that are usually the people who are too stupid to realize it's impossible."
And that's the truth.

Scott Kurtz's comments above may sound like egotistical ranting to you, Sir Goat, but I think that has more to do with YOUR image of Scott based on his success than anything Scott thinks or feels based on his success. ------------------ Peace out, Max Leibman comicmetaphysic@yahoo.com Desiderata - Comic and Associated Strangeness posted daily by yours truly.
