Right you are, mi amigo Jeff. Research by the advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather (where I'm currently Senior Art Director) indicates that kids are FANATICALLY loyal to the the Nickolodeon brand over all others (Disney and Cartoon Network included), much like the fabled "Marvel Zombies" of years past.

Oh, if only the comics industry could tap into that sort of high-profile recognition and trust among kid; it'd raise current profit levels and guarantee a generation future comic book readers as well. *Sigh*...

well, first of all, i'd love to see someone bring the TICK cartoon back. it doesn't even need any changing, since it was really well animated (especially for american cartoons) and funny as all get out!

i'd also love to see a reincarnation of those ROBOTECH or MACROSS ,whichever it was, that kept me mesmerized every saturday morning as a kid. i still have fleeting memories of bipedal mechs stomping around firing laser beams at the transformable alpha fighters! great stuff.

continuing with TOM AND JERRY... yes, it would definitely have to be in pantomime, EXCEPT for that wonderful scream of tom's! that was a wonderful howl of pain and never failed to crack me up, even to this day.

one other i can think of right now: i'd like to see a revamped version of the original TRANSFORMERS cartoon. another cartoon that had me hooked and watching every episode. ah, optimus prime and the classic cry of "roll out!" and the lovely sound of transforming robots....

George -- Personally, I too, would love to see the further comic adventures of either Underdog or Tom Terrific. So - Let me ask the 'stupid' question? What's stopping you?

Scott-- Do you know if "Tom Terrific" is within the 'public' domain? How's that work, anyway?

Geez, so many questions ... so little time.
Thanks for the mention, guys. The reminder on Tom T. brought back real pleasant memories.

bye!

"Tom Terrific" is owned by Viacom. A few years ago, Mike Kazaleh did presentations for new "Tom Terrific" and "Mighty Mouse" feature-length TV cartoons for Nickolodeon under Jerry Beck's supervision. (Mike worked on the Bakshi/Kricfaluci "Mighty Mouse" and also contributed to Marvel's licensed MIGHTY MOUSE funnybook.)

Unfortunately, nothing came of Mike's presentations. Perhaps Nick was more interested in creating new properties rather than revisiting old ones.

SCOTT "Crabby Appleton" SHAW!

P.S.: Speaking of presentations, I wrote and drew a pretty cool one a few years ago for the Bagdasarians; it was for a proposed "Clyde Crashcup and Leonardo" half-hour series. To my knowledge, it was only presented once, to Margaret Loesch at Fox Kids' Network, who deemed it "too young." Oh, well... -- SS!

~"Where's Huddles". i'll be damned.

~that's most definitely it, Scott, many thanks. i must be misremembering the primate aspect, although, as i recall, the show was sketchily drawn, as opposed to the hard outlines used in "The Flintstones" and "The Jetsons", and the neanderthalic proportions of the main characters must have contributed to my lapse in recall. again, thanks for clearing that up for me.

~...and i do remember loving "Tom Terrific"; i'd slog through the good Captain Kangaroo's antics every morning, waiting for those few minutes of the cheap but imaginative work on that toon, then switch to one of our two other local channels (that's right, three choices was it way back then in Fort Wayne, Indiana, when you had to get up and cross the room to "surf") for my beloved Three Stooges reruns. ah, the '60's...

"And I was gonna mention "Tom Terrific" as well, except I figured I was the only one here who was old enough to remember it."

Ahem.

"I'm Tom Terrific -- greatest hero ever!
'Terrific' is the name for me because I'm so clever"
etc.

Actually, it was re-run for a time during the early 1970s, so you don't have to be THAT old to remember it.

P.S.
Scott, are even YOU old enough to remember Crusader Rabbit? I wouldn't mind seeing a new comic book version of that one.

Only the licensing money, Rick... only the 2 or 3 grand to get them for a year... that and the lackluster sales they'd get in the current market... but plans are afoot for Underdog... sort of.

In addition to Tom Terrific, does anyone else recall the other Captain Kangaroo short? Yep. Lariat Sam! With his horse Tippytoes and Badlands Meanie (with Bushwhack)... or how about "The Space Kid-ettes" from H-B circa 1966-67? In the vein of H-B's primetime series from the 70's (like Where's Huddles?) does anyone else remember the "spin-offs" from Love American-Style... Melvin Danger and Wait Till Your Father Gets Home?

Sigh... so many memories, so few active brain cells...

"wait till your father gets... until your father gets... wait till your father gets home."

jeez, that takes me back, george. as does your mention of "the space kidettes," mainly because it's also one of the earliest _comix_ i remember reading.

what i wanna know is, why hasn't anyone mentioned "josie and the pussycats in outer space" till now?

ok, ok... my _serious_ request would be for "samson & goliath." samson was a billy batson-type kid who tooled around the country on a motor scooter and when a giant stone idol or ice creature or what-have-you threatened, slammed his magic wristbands together to become a captain marvel-type hero. the cool thing, tho', was that when samson slammed his wristbands again, his pet dog, goliath, turned into a giant lion (yes, lion) with thunderous sonic-blast roar and laser vision. s&g had one of the coolest cartoon theme songs, too -- ranked right up there with "the herculoids" theme.
