Bag,

I haven't seen From Dusk 'til Dawn. That's what I meant to get across -- poor wording on my part.

With that post, I wasn't trying to directly or indirectly say anything about you. I was trying to talk about Tarantino's work. So when you moved the emphasis from him to you, it threw me. You may know everything there is to know about Tarantino, but you weren't my point. I didn't have you on my mind. That he didn't direct FD'tD hadn't been introduced into the conversation -- that's why I brought it up. That's all. Not because of anything about you or your knowledge. So when you went from talking about Tarantino to talking about you, you lost me.

Sorry about the misunderstandings. No, no hard feelings. I just didn't know what the fuck had happened.

Matthew

Isn't anyone going to post about Vol. 2's most astounding comics-related reference?

No, not the Superman thing (though I liked that).

It's the section Quentin titled "The Lonely Grave of Paula Schulz" (where the Bride is briefly buried alive). This is a weird intermingling of two obscure titles: one from a dud comedy film, "The Wicked Dreams of Paula Schulz," and from a Charlton war-comics feature, "The Lonely War of Willy Schulz."

Damn, Tarantino owes me a no-prize!

Unless they give away movie tickets for free in your neighborhood, I'm not sure why you're surprised that movie studios are in it for the money.

Never mind the capitalist fulminations; here's the KILL BILL thread!

C'mon, K, given all the wordage you and Charles devoted to analyzing whether Part I did or didn't fulfill the Aristotelian unities (or something like that), I can't believe this would be the only comment you'd manage if you'd seen the film.

Thus, you must not have seen the film, which as you may know devotes quite a bit of time to the characterization you found lacking in Part I. So what are you waiting for?

I watched the Kill Bill Vol. 1 DVD again the other day and one thing I don't like about Vol. 2 is they never should have said The Bride's real name.

That should have been the "what's in the briefcase" question for Kill Bill.

Other then that, I still think it's a great movie.

I'm waiting for you to buy me a ticket, Gene. Get on the ball!

If it's true Tarantino's re-releasing Kill Bill as a unified whole, with the omitted violence added back in, later this year, for an art-house run -- I'll probably wait for that. (Three theatrical runs out of one movie, in one year -- amazing.)

I'll be in Minneapolis on business next week so there's a slight chance I might catch it then; since I know nobody in Minneapolis, I don't foresee myself having much to do.

As a quick side-note, I saw Volume 1 the other day for the 2nd time, with a friend, on DVD; and I must admit, I enjoyed it more the 2nd time around.

Not that I see much reason to retract any of my earlier criticisms. But, maybe already knowing in advance the elements I disliked lessened the degree to which they annoyed me, and I was able to concentrate more so on the film's merits.

Then again, I was pretty drunk. So maybe this more favorable reaction can be chalked up to incapacitation.

I felt the same way with, of all things, The Mummy (the recent one). It was by no means a great film, but once I got the feel for it, the awkardness of the mixed genres wasn't so bad and I could enjoy it.
