My collection of TPB's is still in the single digits, but Kingdom Come definitely takes the top prize. Storyline is tight and covered fresh territory, and Alex Ross' artwork is unparalleled.

I'd dig into it again, but my stack of unread comics continues to grow...

Hi,

This is my first post EVER on ANY kind of forum, so what better subject is there than my fave graphic novels?

First, I disagree with the statement that all good graphic novels come from Europe, but I have to say there is some kick-ass stuff from there that is sadly unavailable to the English-speaking public.

So without further ado, my list goes something like this:

1- Watchmen (of course!)
2- The Dark Knight Returns (of COURSE!!)
3- Le Bar a Joe (Joe's Bar): Almost everything by Argentine team Sampayo/Munoz is among my faves. This is however an extraordinary collection of short stories about immigrants and misfits in New York. I think Fantagraphics published some of this stuff but its seems hard to find in English right now.
4- The Ballad of Halo Jones: This underrated Alan Moore classic is among his best work ever! Book 3 is almost as good as watchmen!
5- Jimmy Corrigan
6- Ghost World
7- John DiFool (Incal): The ancestor of current euro-hit MetaBarons, and an influence on Bilal and countless others, as well as an obvious inspiration for the Fifth Element movie.
8- Elektra: Assassin Why oh why is Alex Ross so highly regarded when Sienkiewicz's painted work is light years ahead of his?
9- Ranxerox in New York: Think kick-ass sex and violence started with Vertigo? Well their titles are Candy Candy compared to this euro-trash classic!
10- From Hell
11- Judge Dredd in the Cursed Earth: Comics Punk
12- All of Alack Sinner's novels by Sampayo/Munoz, but especially Memoires d'un Prive (memoires of a PI), Rencontres (meetings) and La Fin d'un Voyage (end of a journey)
13- Akira
14- La Femme Piege (the trap woman): Part II of Bilal's Nikopol trilogy
15- Sin City: The first one

... and zillions of others but I can't wait to post this!

Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters.

The kind of multi-layered mature type of story that still works on every level. The art was beautiful and the characterizations spot on.

While I enjoy Kevin Smith's current run with Ollie, the Longbow Hunters is unbeatable. It was realistic, gritty, timely and made you look at the characters in a very different way. Rather than being "superheroes" Oliver and Dinah seemed like people first and crime fighters second.

I never get bored rereading this.

My favorite Graphic Novel. That would most definitely be DemonKnight: A Grimjack Grahic Novel. It came out back in 1989. I loved the character when I first nought ish # 55 back in '88. Thing is this, isn't a graphic novel "new" material, whereas a Tradepaperback is reprints; such as Dark Knight Returns, Watchmen, Born Again, so are those in fact "not" Graphic Novels? Or should i go pop another beer, and daytdream of the god old days when Grimjack had his own book, and wasn't tied up with rights and shit like Miracleman is right now? Anyhoo, yes, it's worth it, if ya find it.

Since most of my favorites have already been mentioned, I'll just add Why I Hate Saturn by Kyle Baker. Great stuff.
