Dear Mr. Truman,
I also thought Glanzman's Attu (a Tor-like caveman story put out by you own 4 Winds publishing) was excellent.
If you enjoyed Sabre, you should als give Don Mcgregor's Detective's Inc a try. The second GN with beautiful pencil art by Gene Colan is wonderful.

As for my own personal favorite, Scott McCloud's Zot will probably always be number 1. I read this first in my 20's, and 20 year's later I'm reading it to my son, who loves it as much as I do.

I was just flipping through the new DH printing of Astro Buy. I realized it is from 1975..wowwww... This stuff looks amazing, granted I haven't read it yet, but it looks amazing. the line work looks very Barks like, but more detailed for black & white publishing. I'm sure I'll enjoy it...
Anyway, My Faves..either original or reprint are.... The Oscar Wilde fairytale books by P Craig Russell Nausicaa by Miyazaki Appleseed by Shirow Oh/Ah My Goddess by Fujishima Golden Age by Robinson/Smith The 1970's fireside reprint books of Marvel key comics...Origins, Son of Origins, Battles, Superhero Women, Bring on The bad guys....fun stuff The Margot and Mazer series' by Frezzato and Charyn.. Monkeyman and O'Brien by Adams dare I say Bucky O'Hare by Golden?

The person posting as 'King Of Gutters' and spamming the board is a guy I recently had to ban (who self-styled himself as "The King Of The Gutters"). He is not to be confused with some other sock puppet posting as "King Of The Gutters"
Ignore any flaming and trolling from 'King Of Gutters'. He won't be around here anymore.

Um, didn't Mr. Veitch ask, "What is you favorite GRAPHIC NOVEL?"
Correct me if I'm wrong, but a GRAPHIC NOVEL is an ORIGINAL stand alone story (not a series)that is outside of a character's current continuity.
A TRADE PAPERBACK (which most of you are listing) is a reprint of a complete story arc from a priviously published story.
That said, my favorite GN is The Death of Captain Marvel

The Cowboy Wally Show, by Kyle Baker. A while back Bud Plant offered these at a dirt cheap discount price; if you can still find it, do yourself a favor and snatch it up.

Yep -- that' how I got my copy!
I love Bud Plant, but, lately, all they've been offering in Previews are those Glamour magazines or whatever they are. If they offered more comic books (like the Marvel/Epic Blueberry two-pack from a while back, or the two volumes of Madman collections from a while back, too), then the enticement of cheap books + no shipping charge would make me a more frequent customer of theirs!

For me, it's Kyle Baker's WHY I HATE SATURN, a deliciously witty book that I've given to several friends (friends who aren't usually into comics) over the years...and they've all loved it (maybe not as much as I do but everybody found it engaging and hilarious.)

Impossible to boil it down to one GN/TPB. I've walked away from a few books, however, that I've felt gave me something significant, amazing and unforgettable:
From Hell Sandman: The Kindly Ones The Dark Knight Returns Why I Hate Saturn Watchmen Maus Understanding Comics Signal To Noise
And it's a crying shame that the final Morrison story arcs of Animal Man and Doom Patrol haven't been collected... because they'd easily be on the list as well.
