His technique is different than Romero's, and there's no savini to speak of. George would tend to "numb you out" to set you up for a bigger shocker (like the endless shooting through the first 2/3rds of the film before you get to the "real" gore, which then is even more intense.
If you liked the original, you'll like this, it cranks decently post apocalypse, and you'll love the first half hour.
