Do people still watch baseball?
As if these people really represent sports talent of the cities and areas that bear the name of their teams.
Where before teams (and I'm talking all pro sport) played for their towns, they now instead play for their corporate masters and the almighty dollar.

True, corporate interests and the "almighty dollar" now define the game. Why is this so? The Yankees. Why is this also so in politics? The Republicans. That was one of the points of the article.

Another strange but true is the Washington Redskins last home game before the election. If Washington wins, the party that is in the White House stays. If Washington loses, the party that is in the White House goes.
The last home game before the election is Sunday Oct. 31st against Green Bay.

The whole thing was so absurdly improbable, that, even as the final chips fell into place, there was this weird feeling of lingering disbelief...
Was I thinking of the 2000 election or last night's game?
So far so good. Fantastic, in fact. Let's hope the Democrats/Red Sox vs. Republicans/Yankees analogy mentioned in the Nyer article holds true for the 2004 election.

Will those parallels hold up in 2 weeks? Who knows? But the Yankees choked that series like it was a Presidential pretzel. The umpires reversed important calls like they were Ashcroft's terror prosecutions. And no amount of money could obscure the fact that, after Game 3, the Yankees had no intelligent exit strategy.
Somewhere today, Steinbrenner is kicking an invalid. Could portend a bad, bad month for unelected trust fund dictators with anger management issues named "George."

Easily as accurate and enlightening as the polls:
"George W. Bush" + "dill pickle" = 157 matches "George W. Bush" + "man's inhumanity to man" = 690 matches "George W. Bush" + "upskirt videos" = 13 matches "George W. Bush" + "The Fonz" = 952 matches "George W. Bush" + "tattoo removal" = 174 matches "George W. Bush" + "my ass itches" = 25 matches "George W. Bush" + "mush, you huskies" = 1 match "George W. Bush" + "I want to sing-a" = 5 matches "George W. Bush" + "tweezers" = 835 matches "George W. Bush" + "Cookie Crisp" = 71 matches "George W. Bush" + "smegma" = 803 matches "George W. Bush" + "Edie McClurg" = 121 matches "George W. Bush" + "baked Alaska" = 189 matches "George W. Bush" + "The People's Eyebrow" = 39 matches "George W. Bush" + "naked matador" = 1 match "George W. Bush" + "Aquaman" = 650 matches "George W. Bush" + "Aqualad" = 39 matches "George W. Bush" + "mating season" = 470 matches "George W. Bush" + "infected toe" = 17 matches "George W. Bush" + "Take The Skinheads Bowling" = 67 matches "George W. Bush" + "Goose Gossage" = 91 matches "George W. Bush" + "we all live in a yellow submarine" = 104 matches "George W. Bush" + "fisting technique" = 1 match

Sheesh....
It's an ANALOGY, ferchriskes, suggested by a lighthearted New Yorker article, not an attempt at serious political analysis. With the reactions to that post got you'd think I was making an analogy between Bush/Kerry and raping babies or something.

"George Bush" + "raping babies" = 36 matches "John Kerry" + "raping babies" = 35 matches
Ooooh! As tight as a hot 6-month-old! Let's see what happens when we delve into the numbers a little further:
"George Bush" + "raping babies" + "likely" = 36 matches "John Kerry" + "raping babies" + "likely" = 12 matches
A Bush blowout! Those babies can crawl, but they can't hide!
"George Bush" + "raping babies" + "registered" = 3 matches "John Kerry" + "raping babies" + "registered" = 4 matches
Kerry squeaks out the win! Luckily, he has a plan to increase funding for baby rape counseling!
