Hurricane Donna hit the Greater New York Metropolitan Area on September 12, 1960. I was 6. Several stations on Long Island reported sustained winds over 100 mph, and gusts of 125-130 mph were recorded at the eastern end of the island. Over across the Hudson River up in Rockland County, New York, where we lived, Donna hit hard.
We had storm shutters over most of the windows. One window didn't, and a small tree limb came crashing through it. Donna felled 2 old growth pine trees on our property. We were lucky our house wasn't crushed.
Donna! She was a real bitch!
