Guitar master Link Wray, the father of the power chord in rock 'n' roll who inspired such legends as Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie and Pete Townshend, has died. He was 76.

Wray died Nov. 5 at his home in Copenhagen, his wife and son said on his Web site. No cause of death was given, but his family said his heart was "getting tired." He was buried Friday after a service at Copenhagen's Christian Church.

"While playing his guitar he often told the audience, 'God is playing my guitar, I am with God when I play,'" his wife, Olive, and son, Oliver Christian, wrote. "We saw you go with God, you were smiling."
.

There's more.

I never heard of him.

I saw Pulp Fiction, though.

Aw, that's a shame. He really was a fantastic guitarist (though I find it odd the obit didn't mention his continuing influence on modern surf and rockabilly.)

Its hard to believe that Duane Eddy and Booker T.& The MG's are the only instrumentalists represented in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Link Wray Isn't In the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Yet...
.. because he'd make everyone else at the induction ceremony look like a no-talent wimp.

I was so glad Quentin Tarantino used the Link Wray songs in the movie Pulp Fiction. I believe it was Rumble and Ace of Spades. If you see the movie, it was at Jack Rabbit Slims scene with Uma Thurman and John Travolta.

The comic book connection (via TV show)...

Link Wray - wow! All primitive, distorted guitar instrumentals. Biggest hit- the menacing 1958 monster, Rumble. Legend has it he got his sound by puncturing his speaker cones. I saw him years ago in the city. He also did a great Batman theme.
