That Superman one-shot was called Superman, Inc., and it was surprisingly good. I enjoyed it a lot, in large part because it didn't fall into the Elseworlds trap of making things as close as possible to the "real" version. It also dealt with some of the comparisons between superheroes and sports stars. Overall, it felt like what Superman might have been in our world, one without the real-life superhero paradigm.

And of course, the art was beautiful and supported the story wonderfully.

I'm not looking for the artists to do a monthly or even bi-monthly.
I would be happy with a comic book a year from them.

I remember a few years back Matt Wagner did some Batman covers. I asked my retailer at the time if I could just tear off the covers, cuz I didn't want the comics just the cover art.
They gave me the dirtiest looks. can't imagine why...
Don't really mind good artists doing covers and inks, the good artists bring alot to the table. The only problem I have is when the interior art isn't equal to the cover art. Seeing Adam Hughes , or any other really talented artist , do a beautiful drool-inducing cover and opening the book to see Hack Ripoffartist sleeping through the art is really disappointing.

My own personal comments - Chiarello I have been told works sales at DC. His work I thought raised the bar and we should NOT let him get away. Batman-Houdini was just a slice of his skills. I think he's the unbombastic version of Alex Ross with a dash of Muth.

And Al Williamson. Mr. Star Wars. More importantly, he has carried the banner of Flash Gordon longer than anyone.
Mr. Williamson IS a HUGE part of the entire world's collective consciousness. His recent Wildcat cover showed his pencilling is THERE. Even though still young - he's a living legend! Sort of OUR living legend! Why is he not pencilling?

Actuallly Chaykin is woking as a writer in Hollywood. I think he does story editing on Viper still. I saw his credit on ...sometnig I saw last weekend. Makes more money doing that than in comics.
Personally I'd like to know what Kaluta is doing, met him at a Dallas Fantasy Fair years and years ago. A really cool guy.

Kaluta is doing more covers than ever for DC, anything with an elf or a cauldron it seems.

Chaykin can go to Hollywood I guess. I miss only his 70's stuff anyway, and I doubt we'd be lucky to get American Flagg quality, much less Crusty Bunkers type work if he did come back.

Hey speaking of the Dallas Fantasy Fairs, don't you miss THOSE? I grew up in Dall-ass, but have been in San Antonio for 7 years. There have been ZERO regional conventions here in all that time. Maybe 4 by our "chain" store. Ngggh.
