This week's TIME Magazine (the one with the steroids cover) has a 1/3 page review of the last episode of "David Boring" in EIGHTBALL -- no fanfare, just a regular (rave) review under the heading "comics" (like "film" or "books") as if it were the most natural thing in the world to review a funnybook in TIME.

What makes this particularly mind-boggling is that NEXT week's TIME will have a TWO-PAGE interview with Joe Sacco done in cartoon format by resident TIME weisenheimer Joel Stein and Seattle Ink Stud Michael Dougan. It's sort of snide, but the snideness is mostly at Stein's own expense; Joe comes off just fine, and Dougan worked in a panel with a big cover repro of GORAZDE.

What's amusing about all this is that last week on the CBLDF Cruise a fan told the assembled cartoonists and publishers that they really ought to try to get reviewed in TIME. (This, with all due respect, is the kind of "advice" you get from fans; the pop heard immediately after that was Eric Reynolds' head exploding, since, if you piled up all the promo Eric has sent to TIME in the last few years, it would outweigh Eric -- who's a skinny guy, but still.)

I like to imagine the guy who made the suggestion getting his subscription copy of TIME, opening it, and nodding sagely to himself: "Ah, I see they took my advice. Amazing no one had thought of it before."

Excelsior!

Kim,
Let me be one of the first to congratulate you here on Comicon.com for this accomplishment. Also, if you would, please tell Eric I said, "Hi!" ... He was pretty friendly towards our group back in the late 1996-98 era.

Here on the ORCA front - We just got a nice mention in the pages of Mike and Laura Allred's ATOMICS #4 letters page. Right below four people that most all of us either know or recognize... Jeff Gelb, Randy Bowen, Kevin Nowlan, and Terry Austin.

Accomplishments come in all shapes and sizes for each of us. 'Course, ORCA has a ways to go to make it into TIME.

There's always time for TIME. Good to see you posting again. No previous hard feelings on my side of the fence. Hope the cruise
was wonderful.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY now seems to be reviewing comics every other issue in its book section, under a "Comic Book" heading. Most of the comics reviewed have been DC (seeing as how Time Warner is parent company to both), but they did review the 300 hardcover when it came out.

Rick,

Sucking up to Thompson? The World is ending after all.

Somehow I knew Thompson was going to come back sooner or later...Right after he made his grand gesture posting he would never come back again.

Waiting for Kim to eat his large plate of crow.....that HYPOCRITE!!!!!!!!!

It's too bad there wasn't a guy on the cruise that suggested that Sam Catalino move into a dark cave, far away from the public, (or at the very least very far away from an internet connection). Maybe that wish would've come true too!

I witnessed your interaction with Harlan Ellison, Mr Catalino, at MegaCon. It didn't leave me with the impression that a friendship had been established.

Why are people sometimes so venomous on this message board?

Anybody know who the contact people are for those columns? If not, I'll go pick 'em up, but if someone else has already shelled out good $ for those useless mags, please share.

Thanks
