Sam, Kim has been back since a couple weeks before the cruise.
The Time article does sound like a real coup. It'll be nice to see comics get reviews and coverage as a matter of course- hell, if wrestling can be mainstream, why can't we?
Say, does Robert Hughes still write for Time? I know he's interested in comics, but don't know of him ever writing about them.

Argh.. it wasn't included in Time international! Hopefully they'll include it in Next week's magazine (you'd be surprised how many times the international edition gets stuff later) Anyway, congrats to Fantagraphics for getting it in there!

Mr B,
Although I don't remember you, you can take it up with Harlan. With Bob Ingersoll as a witness.
Perhaps you can ask others why they are so nasty as well, like Thompson....
Chris,
My life does not revolve around slamming into this theatrical postulating hypocrite. But, if you put yourself up and come back on with high visibility, you will be held accountable for false promises you made in the past and get slammed...

Kewl! Now, if we just wrote a letter to the editor of time praising this review, the reviews of comics, and suggesting a review of something like From Hell, or the Ghost World trade... Nothing like the power of positive reinforcement. ------------------ Sequential Tart -- Brains, Brass Ovaries, and On Time World Domination. http://www.sequentialtart.com

Congratulations to Dan Clowes, Joe Sacco, and Fantagraphics for well-deserved recognition in TIME.
David Boring is a terrific graphic novel and I'm glad to see it getting such exposure. I trust that Sacco's forthcoming Safe Area Gorazde will be great as well (I've got it on order at my local comics shop).

Along the same lines as the TIME review, PUBLISHERS WEEKLY this week has a very nice review of Frank Miller and Lynn Varley's 300. The review says, among other things, "[Miller's] portrayal of the ancient world is compelling....Form and content are ideally wedded: Miller's writing is stark, his drawings moody and dramatic, and intensified by Varley's grimly appropriate palette of earth and blood."
Congratulations to Miller and Varley, and I hope that such reviews, in PW or TIME or anywhere else, result in higher sales.

Has it occurred to anyone that the reason comics don't get reviewed is because the industry puts out a lot of crappy stuff?
In our files, I have clipped reviews of the early Epic Moebius graphic novels published in Newsweek, Rolling Stone, Christian Science Monitor, Playboy, Reflex, Print, Publishers Weekly and I'm probably forgetting a few other mags.
NBM also can brag about often getting some very good "mainstream" reviews as well.
I was thrilled to see the DAVID BORING review in TIME, but did they mention the publisher?
One of the problem we experienced in the mid-80s with the Epic Moebius books is that we got good rviews but potential readers could not find the books outside of comic-book stores.

Kim, that's wonderful news. The most significant thing about it may be that, as you pointed out, it appeared under a "comics" heading--makes it seem as if they might intend it to be a frequent feature...
