Blood and Leonard Cohen music would vastly improve LIBERTY MEADOWS. (In fact, it would improve anything -- look at what it did for Robert Altman movies.)

I think Mr. Thompson was refuting the notion that his mother is the type of senior citizen who judges and complains about comic strips that are clearly not targeted to her age group. Hate and Natural Born Killers, presumably, are examples of cultural artifacts that might be spurned by someone who's also offended by Mr. Cho's cutting-edge sensibilities. If I've misconstrued any of this, I apologize in advance.

Oh, now I get it. Thanks Jim. I wondered who they would have draw "Killers".

Maybe Don Heck or John Buscema?

What I want to know is why TCJ folks as a group think Cho's work is worthless, and why they think he's such a shallow hypocrite?

Earth Prime, the only dedicated comic book store doesn't carry it citing "Poor sales"<<

Yeah, like none. Here is the Other Comic Store Worth Even Half A Fuck In Vermont and you have three copies of The Comics Journal blowing thru these two stores combined, with an additional copy left over from last month at Borders in case we sell out.

I liked it when Milo got up and made some comment about my opinion being not worth much because I'm "co-owner of a comic book shop in Vermont"

Well, I don't have any trouble selling 30 to 50 copies of Liberty Meadows each time a new one comes out, so suck alum and drool.

Which group of "TCJ folks" think that?

I like Cho's drawing but the writing leaves me cold. I don't think every comic needs to be art with a capital "A", but even as entertainment it seems to be barely treading water. Like a lot of guys Cho seems to have spent a lot of time learning his craft without ever having thought about what to do with it.

I suppose if it's selling high volumes in the comic book stores it's at least helping to keep things afloat.

I'll half agree with Kim...blood no, Leonard Cohen yes. (Maybe some Tom Waits too.)

I understand people not liking LM because it's so much like Bloom County. But its still better written than half the strips in the paper today. I rank Boondocks, The Norm, and Liberty Meadows as the best strips out there right no.(Unfortunatly, my local paper doesn't carry any of these, so I read them online.)
Can anyone out there real say they've never read a LM strip and busted out laughing?

I have never read an LM strip and busted out laughing. I read the whole University-squared book and then gave it away.

I have, however, jerked off over an LM cover. If Frank Cho ever does an Eros comic, I'll buy it.

I, too, can say that I've never read a Liberty Meadows strip and busted out laughing. Nor a U-squared strip, for that matter.

It's not that it's like Bloom County that I don't like it. It's that it's, like, not funny.

(And no, I'm not a senior citizen.)
