I know your times importent, but why did you buy Eclipse? People can harp on and on about Miracleman, but Eclipse was so much more. You had the DNAgents, Black Terror and Airboy. Many of the other properties that Eclipse published were creator owned (or I think they were) like Scout, ESPers and Tapping the Vein. Then they also did a lot of licenced work like Dirty Pair, Appleseed, James Bond, and the Hobbit. It just doesn't seem worth it. Especially since you've sat on all these charaters except for The Heap, a relatively small supporting character from Airboy which appeared several times in Spawn and got it's own action figure. I know your sitting on several issues of the Terror (formally the Black Terror) and last time I checked Beau Smith said you were waitng for the right time to publish. I really can't wait for this to see the light of day. I loved what Beau did in the BT mini. Then I see something like the Airboy pin up that was done for your Spawn incentive book (of which the name excapes me at the moment) and am glad that nothing ever became of that. I realize that the market isn't what it once was, but to just sit on thee characters is a waste of them. Hopefully some of them will be published once again (please get Chuck Dixon to finish what he started in Airboy 50, it's been almost twelve years).

Pol,

Thanks for the words of iron on mine and Chuck's time on The Black Terror. I know I speak for Chuck when I say thanks. That book was a blast to do and I'm still pretty stoked on the character and story that I created for that run on The Black Terror. I would've loved for Eclipse to collect the book into a trade paperback before we went under, but it didn't happen in time.

I aggree with you on Chuck's run on Airboy. That series was way ahead of it's time and is still heads above most of the stuff being written today.

Tim Truman's Scout book was another one that was way ahead of it's time. I think that in the next couple of years a lot of readers are gonna "discover" those books that Eclipse put out and they will become as hot as the search for Miracleman is today. Our print runs on those books weren't huge. They will be kinda' hard to find.

Thanks again, amigo

Fingers crossed. That's something I'd pay to see - Clive kicking Toddy's butt.

Truth be told though, if Toddy actually did toys from the Hellraiser movies, I'd line up for them!

Thanks Beau, I saw them in the latest Previews. Nasty.
But is there a possibility of doing the actual characters from the movies: Pinhead, Butterball, Chatterer, Camerahead, etc?

Now everyone can correct me if I'm wrong about this. According to what I can remember Todd McFarlane gets the winning bid for Eclipse's trademarks and other assets at an auction for the princely sum of $25,000. To me $25,000 is a substantial amount of money. I'm sure that most of the people who post messages on this board would agree but to McFarlane it's got to be chump change in comparison to his real wealth. So why did he buy MM if not to dangle it over Neil Gaiman's head like you would tease a dog. It just goes to prove that the rich really are different.

Paul,

We'll see how the new figures go and then Todd and Clive may get together and make some more. They get a along real well so anything can happen.

I know from my days at Eclipse that Clive was always a great guy to work with. A real gentleman.

That's how we got Steve Niles on board at TMP. We worked with Steve in conjunction with Clive and Steve's own Arcane publishing back then. Steve is a real writing machine. That guy is always ahead of schedule and a another real stand up guy to boot.

Randy,

Naw, bud. When Todd bought Eclipse I'm pretty sure that dangling Miracleman over Neil was never a thought in his crowded head.

We're gettin' too "comic book good vs. evil" here. There's enough drama in real life without bringing any extra stuff here to comics.

I'm not tryin' to be a smart-ass. Just givin' my thoughts on it.

Beau

I'm a cynical 31 year-old.

I need that lead-in.

Ok. Devil's advocate throwing all logic and experience out the window here.

There was a dispute about creative rights beyond Eclipse and the creative team, right? Could Todd be trying to lay those to rest? Kind of challenge any other parties to come forward by laying the character full out and calling it his own? If they don't, maybe then the character would be turned over for neil to finally finish?

I hope this is possible. I know it's probably not. Jesus! How messed up would a person be to treat someone like that just because he can?

I wish this whole thing about Miracleman would just be put to rest. Only in comics would you find adults bitching and whining over something that's 20 years old, grow up and get a life! Every thread this subject seems to come up, and i'm just about fed up with this message board because of it. In every industry those with the money and power lord it over those who do not, if that seems unfair to you I'm sorry but that is the way this country works and should work, if you want something different move to where it is different and whine somewhere else PLEASE!!

Lord save us all from bumpkins who actually spew this kind of garbage. And while you're at it how about saving these bumpkins from the ramifications of living the way they'd actually have to live if the things they espoused came to pass.

And you probably blame the electric companies for your state's power problems too, right?

Archie Bunker is in da howz! 'If you don't like it, move!' Are you serious?

Comicon boards are pretty much the only boards I check and I haven't been doing it that long, but is this a 'thing?' Like trolling or something? Someone goes into a board called "Todd about Eclipse" and gets pissed because we're talking about Miracleman? What the Hell were you expecting?

And we should stop talking about it because YOU'RE bored with the topic? Again, I have to ask if you are indeed serious.

GaryDills-
As a matter of fact I'll let the ongoing investigations try and uncover whether the charges of fiscal stripping by the power companies was a contributing cause to the crisis. You, I'm relatively sure from a cursory reading of your post, probably believe that the power companies were as pure as the driven snow when it comes to ascertaining blame. After all, the bigger you are, the righter you are. No?

I'd like to thank Mr Smith for replying. Talk to Todd about giving us an Airboy mini to tie things up(the search for Airboy, four issues would be good, but only if Dixon what's to write it). I haven't bought a TMP book in two years because it's all Spawn or Spawn related. He has the characters, use them. And to the poster that said they're sick of Miricleman, I am too. Eclipse was more than MM. But I think it's just getting stared since Todd's giving an interview about MM. I just want my Airboy and Black Terror fix.

Pol,

Nobody loves the Eclipse stuff as much as me. Airboy is very close to my sin filled heart. Yes, I would love to see Chuck write the book again and do it the way it's supposed to be. This isn't just some old guy talkin'. The stuff was really good. Needs to be read by others.

I'll do what I can with Todd. May be alot. May be nothing. But I will try.

Beau, I want to thank you as well.

Regardless of any issues I have with Todd, you've proven to everyone to be a creator that shows respect for the 'comic community' out there by cutting through the bullshit and I appreciate that.

Plus I'm too chicken to pick a fight with you. You're a scary dude!

Y'know, when Todd first bought out what remained of Eclipse, my immediate assumption was that he was after the Airboy rights, for action figures. I guess that was wrong, but I still feel it would make an interesting line...

Paul,

Thank you for the words of respect. I only use my fists when kindness fails now days.

On a personal note, I really believe that creator rights in the comic book industry, video games and general entertainment is more important now than ever before. There should be written contracts between creators and publishers before they belly up to the bar together. That way nobody's got any weasels jumpin' out of their pants later to bite the other guy on the ass. It protects both parties and let's everyone know how the game is gonna end.

Nat,

Ya know....that was one of my big wishes the day Todd called me up on the phone and said "Hey, bud...guess what? You're workin'; for Eclipse again!" I gotta say, that was a real funny moment for me.

I wold love to see the Airboy figures as toys. Can you imagine Birdie the plane as a moveable toy?? I also have to add that being the greedy self centered kinda' guy I am....I would love to see The Black Terror that Chuck Dixon, Dan Brereton and I did.

I never count anything out. Ya never know.

Thanks,

Beau

I do pitty any one that mess with CLive and honestly i would love to see Todd and CLive fight. I like seeing fights cause i am mentally ill. As for hellraseir toys not a chance in hell Disney owns the irghtsd to the movie and said they will not give the rights to make toys. Till that Evil place burns downw e are screwed unless Toddy makes a Cendobite that looks likepinhead so we can custom that guy we can't. Beu what work did you do on the Tapping the Vein? what other books did you do i have a few old eclipes comics that you might have worked on but i don't have them with in reach. If you could just list them and i can compare them to what i have or can get i would love to have an autograph on them thanks
