I'm about six miles away from the Pentagon and I've heard a steady scream of sirens for the past two hours. London during the blitz must have been like this.

Whoever did this would have been better served to do it under an administration that *wasn't* headed by the "King of Death Row." Bush believes in a life for a life.

Any report on Jim Hanley's Universe? I know it's across from the Empire State Building, but I don't really know NYC well enough to know how close that is to the WTC. Hope Jim & family & staff are okay.

We have--had--a view of the World Trade Center from our south window and it is a horrific sight. It's truly astonishing. Surprisingly, chaos has not broken out in the streets, though the subways are all closed and almost all bridges and tunnels are shut down.
Other than that, I am speechless.

I live in NYC, I'm fine, check out the TCJ boards, other NYers are posting there as well. Anybody living in NYC who can do it, should donate blood, it's badly needed.

Hanley's is way up in midtown, the WTC is at the southern tip of the island, so they should be ok. They ARE right across from the ESB, so they should really get the fuck out of there until this attack is officially declared to be over.

I wonder why the pilots didn't crash their planes into the ocean's once it became apparent what the hijacker's plans were. Unless the terrorists were flying the planes themselves. I can't even imagine the horror of the people on those passenger jets.

Being from New York, I can't believe this. Of course, every American is feeling the same thing, regardless of roots.

This is much, much worse than Pearl Harbor. This is our wakeup call, America.

Make them all pay, with interest.

I imagine it's virtually a sure thing that the original pilots were dead (or detained elsewhere in the plane), and that terrorists were flying the planes -- these were precision hits, and a terrorist would not allow the "hero" factor to enter into this equation.

How is it that ONE plane can be hijacked in this day and age, let alone four?

I mean, what the fuck?

From your neighbour in Canada, I send my deepest condolences to all Americans on this dark, dark day. May those responsible for this complete act of cowardice recieve swift and total punishment.

It is a black day not only for the free world, but for humanity itself.
