Is anybody here really stupid enough to believe that the Terrorists distinguish between our political parties? I'm an American and I think the division between them is pretty trivial. Every American has a target on his or her forehead- at one point will the appeasement crowd wake up to that?

Perhaps Sam puts attacking gays on the same level as attacking Republicans. IHHO, of course. Yes, those poor, downtrodden right-wingers, who must battle discrimination and powerlessness on a daily basis. Such pathos! Such nobility! Such horse hockey.

The lovey-dovey bipartisanship we keep hearing about is largely a sham, by the way. The Right is currently trying to (once again) ram the capital gains tax cut down our throats, taking advantage of both our precarious economic situation as well as Bush's soaring (and likely temporary) popularity mongst the masses. In fact, the Wall Street Journal is openly crowing that this tragedy is an opportunity to enact all kindsa wonderful Republican fun, like stuffing the courts with Right-Wingers - their thinking being that the Democrats' guard is down because it's not currently not nice to say bad things about the President. And if you think Ashcroft was bad before, just watch how quickly our civil rights become shaved now that there's a terrific-sounding new Cabinet position. (I dunno about anyone else, but "Department of Homeland Defense" sounds very Soviet-like to me).

This crap will be the price we pay, folks, if we let this horrible tragedy stun us into fear-based complacency. Let Michael Moore rant on, and more (bad pun) power to him.

Agreed. Everyone seems to be in the "better safe than sorry" mode right now. I hope this changes real fast.

Oh, and in the "Let's blame someone else" Department, from a source other than the disrespected NEWSMAX, comes this from the BOSTON GLOBE:

Allies, critics say Clinton fell short in terror fight

You don't? Using this tragedy to attack anyone save those responsible is pretty slimy, even if one is not named Falwell, ya know.

That sounds really really paranoid to me. Not that it won't happen.

Well, maybe, if terrorist incidents weren't happening here...but since they are, it sounds very reasonable to me.

That raving right winger, Chris Hitchens, writing for that bastion of conservatism, the Nation, spells it out for the appeasment crowd.

Am I in the "appeasement crowd" or the "TCJ crowd"? Or both?

I just like to know which groupthink I'm supposed to be following. I'm never sure.

Your reading comprehension is about as good as Samuel's. As Larry and Elayne have correctly pointed out, Moore's quote was not attacking or suggesting attacking Republicans, but instead suggesting that if the target of the terrorists was the Bush administration they had picked the wrong location.

Of course it's still a dopey statement. It's highly unlikely that the terrorists were specifically targeting the Bush administration as opposed to the U.S. in general, and the financial district of New York does in fact have plenty of Republicans.

It was a stupid thing to say, although not as stupid as saying that people you disagree with have angered God and caused him to remove his magic force field from the US.

Oh Lord, oh lordie, the Left's downward spiral is nearly complete. Such a sad thing.

Fantagraphics goes Ch. 11 this year?

The economic shockwaves of the attack should reach the direct market soon. It may be the killing blow. The Dow Jones has lost more than a thousand points this week- what chance does this already-hemorraging cottage industry have?

Your turn Chris, let's have a quote by me or anyone else here suggesting we appease Osama bin-Laden.
