Could it be Otto was injured in a freak fool-sensing apparatus accident which occurred when his device was overloaded?

My current theory;
Otto was a secondary sock puppet for a then regular poster, but that poster decided he preferred the Otto identity after a while. It turned out to be a safe beard to post thoughts behind and helped deflect the sting of personal attacks. "Otto" is still here, but is now posting under his actual name when he chooses to post.
(You can fool some of the people all of the time...)
