The Time Top Ten thread has been generating lots of discussion about the differences between the various mainstream vs non-mainstream factions, and the comics that should be included on a 2001 Best Of List. As has been said many times before, "I like what I like", popular, obscure or critically praised or not. So without further ado...

10. Alias #1
9. X-Force #116-
8. Action Comics #775
7. Banner:Startling Stories
6. HellBlazer
5. Tangled Webs #4
4. Ultimate Spider-Man
3. Green Arrow #4
2. Powers
1. 100 Bullets

Mainstream? definitely! But all are damn fine/fun reads!

Don't argue with me. I'm a college student. I know everything.

Promethea
100 Bullets
Murder Me Dead

Optic Nerve
Black Hole

and DK1, Black Panther, Cable, New X-Men, and Captain Marvel as honorable mention. God it's been a great year-read Ghost World, From Hell, David Boring, and Jimmy Corrigan this year as well though all didn't come out this year.

No specific title numbers (except in the case of one-shots), but my top 10 books of the year would be:

Outlaw Nation
Ultimate X-Men
Fury
Banner
New X-Men (I've never had a year in my life, nor ever envisioned having one, where I would have counted any X books in my top 10 of the year - now I have two! What a revoltin' development.)
The Authority
Hate Annual #2
Titan's Judge Dredd/2000 AD trades (not new material, I know, but still welcome)
Love & Rockets
1234

Same thing happened last year. At that point I was still wondering why everyone was complaining as that was the first time something like this list ever happened so I felt comics were just lucky to have it.

Here are mine in NO particular order:

-- Outlaw Nation
-- Metabarons: Path of the Warrior
-- Berlin: City of Stones (funny how it was on the TIME list last year but the trade didn't come out in the direct market til 2001)
-- Alec: Three-Piece Suit
-- EXPO 2001
-- The Golem's Mighty Swing
-- Drawn & Quarterly Vol. 4
-- Queen & Country
-- THB 6d
-- Vox
-- Pistol Whip

Hopefully I can get around later to giving some reasons for my picks. I think discussion is more interesting that way but right now...I'm tired. G'night.

Of course, any of our Top 10 lists would have to be limited by what we actually read, so they don't necessarily measure the quality of a book compared to everything else that came out.

I wanted to wait until I'd had a bit of a look through some of my purchases over the past year, but I couldn't wait.

In no particular order:
- New X-Men #114-119, 2001 Annual (brilliant)
- X-Force #116
- Amazing Spider-Man #30-35
- JSA #26
- Flash:Iron Heights (beautiful)
- Ultimate Spider-Man #13
- Wonder Woman #172
- Joss Whedon's Fray #1-5
- Avengers #38-43
- Superboy's Legion #1-2

Money well spent.

In other words...you really think that columnists who come up with their "top 10 of the year" actually read every comic book that comes out?

Just remember to be good, because Santa should be coming down your chimney in just a few days.

Sorry, that was mean. But I guess I'm just kind of mean natured. Oh, well.

Probably not, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that they read more comics than I did this year.

Keeping that in mind;

BELT SANDER
THE DARK KNIGHT STRIKES BACK
DEFENDERS
GREEN ARROW
GREYSHIRT: INDIGO SUNSET
GRIP
LOVE AND ROCKETS
TOM STRONG
ULTIMATE X-MEN
X-FORCE
