What I want to know is where does Peter David (or Byrne for that matter) find the time to go online and conduct this feud. David is so prolific that hardly a month goes by without something new by the man being released. And while Byrne's output has seemingly been curtailed I'm sure he keeps busy as well. But in spite of this they still manage to find the time to go online and engage in a match of oneupmanship with each other. What I want to know is where can the rest of us get these extra hours in the day that David and Byrne seem to have a monopoly on? Believe me I could use them.

Good god do they ever take a break? How long have they been going at it? I remember reading through the same kind of crap a couple of years ago at the old AOL boards. I think Erik Larsen even got dragged into it. You'd think PAD would have realized that every discussion with Byrne goes in circles: as i recall everytime someone would prove him wrong he'd either ignore it or say something really stupid. It was funny, kind of sad, but it eventually got annoying. Like "why the hell am i reading this??" annoying.

Oh yeah and who else hates that confusing-AOL/USenet-like board format? It also appears to have some kind of auto-quote thing where you get a list of everyone that responded to the thread, making it so you have to scroll to the bottom to the new response? Gives you even more a reason to not visit there .

From the PADman's AOL board, said by Peter himself:

"You couldn't have known. I have a certain amount of time in a day allotted for the web. I'm not getting stuff from the Malibu yet, so my e-mail was fairly quiet. And my website was dead thanks to the server crashing and the sysop vanishing off to Pensic without leaving anyone to fix it. So I had a bit of extra time, and I figured I'd check and see what was going on over at the Byrne Board...and found a week long crabfest about me."

——Seriously, what PAD seems to thrive on is what I call "coattailing". Find an existing character, shoehorn your own stories/characterizations/motivations into that character.
——Much safer than, say, creating characters from the whole cloth.

Like She-Hulk.

...or Fantastic Four.

...or Superman.

...or Spider-Man.

And I wonder how the Byrne runs compare to the PAD runs in terms of sequential issues on a title by title basis?

I rest my case.

But thanks for mentioning Philadelphia; I'be been meaning to change that back.

John Byrne is the consumate hypocrite.

"Coattaling"?

Byrne's been riding Jack Kirby's coat tails ever since he left the X-men (a book Jack Kirby started BTW).

Other than Byrne's Next Men, even his "original" stuff is highly derivative. Babe was She-Hulk and Danger Unlimited was the FF. And to me (from reading the first issue), Lab Rats is derived from JBNM but with an X-Files bent.

Nah; LAB RATS had its problems but its resemblance to NEXT MEN was pretty superficial. Though I didn't personally like it very much, I think it's a shame the book didn't succeed, as it might have led to a wider variety of genres from the Big Two.

Though it would be a bit of a giggle if this was all really just "Big Time Wrestling..."
