What prompts people to say "With all due respect" before they write something insulting? What do they think that proves? That they're polite? Seems to me it proves they just don't have a fucking clue.

——Seriously, what PAD seems to thrive on is what I call "coattailing". Find an existing character, shoehorn your own stories/characterizations/motivations into that character.
——Much safer than, say, creating characters from the whole cloth.

PAD: "Star Trek: The New Frontier" is replete with new characters. "Sir Apropos of Nothing" is now an ongoing novel series with entirely new characters. I created many of the characters on the TV series "Space Cases" which ran for two seasons on Nickelodeon. "Soulsearchers and Company," a comic series I've been writing for over ten years, all new characters. I developed "Spyboy" with Mike Richardson and created every other character in that series. I created every character in "Atlantis Chronicles." Oh...and my first play, a straight drama, has been optioned by producers in LA. All original characters.

I've created new characters and new series in books, in film, on TV, in comics. The three original fantasy novels of mine that came out in the last year *all* got starred reviews in Publishers Weekly. To the best of my editor's knowledge, no writer in publishing history has gotten three starred reviews from PW in one year. For original novels, John.

I apologize to the denizens of this board. I know this is John's fan site, and because of that, I've restrained myself. But this has gone on and on and on, and John continues to say the same old stuff and for some reason--nothing I can really put my finger on--something within me says "enough."

You are wrong about me, John. For once and for all, you are wrong. Now either admit you're wrong...or trot out your own lengthy resume for movies, TV, novels, comics and the stage to prove your vast superiority to me. Impress me with a comic featuring original characters you've been writing non-stop for ten years. Yank out those starred PW reviews.
