The Native Americans really weren't overpowered though, on the whole. There were immeasurable numbers of them, many of them inhabiting cities larger than anything in Europe. Though British weapon technology was superior, firearms were pretty clumsy and difficult to use, and the Indians were vastly superior raw fighters, in most cases.
I forget the percentage, but by far, the vast majority of Indians were wiped out by European diseases which their immune systems were not equipped to deal with. If we hadn't brought a few unusual germs along with us on those dingy ships, it is almost certain the Indians would have kept the Europeans well under control.
