Wouldn't def 1 fit the description of that an eic job does when reviewing a book to see if fits company standards? No. This is a common mistake people make when they don't understand the difference between censorship and editing. If a company owns the characters, and is as I mentioned the legal author of the work, it can do whatever it wants in terms of the content. Every freelancer knows (or should know) this going into a WFH situation. If a company doesn't own the characters, but is putting up the money to publish the book, it's still their right to reject the content they find objectionable on the assumption that the characters' owners can take them elsewhere if they don't like the arrangement. (Much of that is, I would imagine, spelled out in individual tailored contracts.) - Elayne
