Another step for Marvel down on the downward spiral of suckiness.

Erik needs to go open a can of whoop-ass at Marvel!

(Except ... it isn't an original idea, to have the president appear in your comic book. It's been done a lot over the years. John F. Kennedy once impersonated Superman in the comics -- he wore a Superman mask over his face -- so that Clark Kent and "Superman" could be seen in the same place at the same time, thereby proving to Lois Lane that they were different people. Clark had to reveal his secret identity to Kennedy, but he quipped, "If you can't trust the president of the United States, who can you trust?" Unfortunately, this issue hit the stands in November 1963, when Kennedy was assassinated, so it turned out that Clark's secret really was safe.)

It's not the point that both have appear Obama in the books. Nobody would complain about that. It's the sum of the variant cover, the shapeshifting impostor and the terrorist fist-jab that seems to me just too much to be coincidental.

Well ... I'm all for Erik Larsen bashing heads over there.

Savage Dragon is so much better than anything Marvel is doing right now.

Jesus fucking christ, could Marvel Comics maybe hire somebody who can maybe draw something vaguely resembling the president-elect, rather than “random negro dude in a suit who also seems to have neck tumors”?

What to expect from people who can't hire someone who can maybe draw something vaguely resembling SPIDER-MAN.

When Erik Larsen gets done kicking their asses for ripping off his Obama story, he can go a second round with them for employing such awful no-talent hack artists.

Seriously, on the Wonkette link, that has to be the worst Obama drawing I've ever seen.

Some of the art commentary on Wonkette is priceless. The comic biz as a whole has never really come to grips with how fundamental principles of drawing (like, you know, anatomy) went to crap with the Image revolution and never recovered.

Not that there aren't still good artists working today, but a lot of them have really elementary flaws that wouldn't pass muster in other industries.
