April,
Roger Friedman reviewed the bootleg version of
X-Men Origins: Wolverine that had been leaked online, then the veteran
Fox columnist found himself with a giant "X" on his back. A few days later it was announced he and Fox had "parted ways." But, the split does not appear to be amicable as Friedman is now suing
Fox and
News Corp for over US$5,000,000.
According to
The Guardian:
Friedman's suit insists that his unauthorised review was tacitly cleared by his editors at Fox News, and claims that News Corp is at fault for indirectly allowing the film to be leaked online. In recent months, Friedman has also suggested that his dismissal was prompted in part by pressure from the Church of Scientology. Friedman claims that the organisation objected to the critical tone of his columns and used its influence to have him removed. In addition to the $5m claim, Friedman is also seeking $180,000 in lost wages.
Friedman's review appeared online April 4th. It was immediately met with outrage from fans who wanted his head on a platter. What do PULSE readers think will be the result of this suit? Do you think Friedman was in the right or wrong? Was his review condoning piracy? Did it prevent you from watching the film?
