I believe the oversized edition Pacific published reprinting the E-Man ROG-2000 backups said in the indicia that the character was copyright Byrne and the reprinted material was copyright Charlton. I'd have to dig it out again to be sure. Right, which is something Watson was trying to point out to Byrne at the time. Byrne insisted he didn't know what he was talking about and that Charlton owned the character and always had.

Not quite what happened, Paul. Glenn Watson was a guy who joined the Byrne board around 2004 and started nailing Byrne on some of the bullshit he had been spewing without challenge. In particular, Glenn got into a discussion with Byrne over who owned Rog 2000. During that discussion, Byrne got caught in a lie and cravenly tried to stealth edit his post to make it look like Glenn was wrong. Byrne got mad because Glenn wasn't going to let it go after catching him dead to rights and since Byrne didn't want to ban Glenn Watson because "he wanted it too bad" he and the guy who manages his site cooked up the idea to put Glenn on everyone's ignore list since using Byrne's own words in context against him is a no-no over there.
People there weren't "crying" over free speech. They were pissed that someone messed with their settings without their consent. Dave Pruitt got the blame for what happened by that fat fuck Matt Hawes because Hawes didn't want to believe Byrne would do something so scummy and he didn't like Pruitt anyway. And Byrne being the classy guy we all know so well, came up with some lame excuse a few days after everyone was going berserk and pointing the finger at the wrong person. He called it a "glitch" and had no problem leaving Pruitt out there to take the blame. Ok. Glenn Watson. Now I recall. JB made a challenge to any & all detractors to say whatever they wanted...but with an addendum...use only the truth. Glenn Watson talked about the Rog2000 copyright & said that JB lied about it in an old interview in which JB thought he had lost the copyright. Turns out that JB was wrong back then & that he did indeed still hold the copyright to the character. The supposed lie was that JB stated that the copyright was never in question. It turns out, with the knowledge of retrospection, that JB did not lie. There was no "stealth editing" of any posts. And no one was caught "dead to rights" at anything. And where do you get this stuff regarding Dave Pruitt, Matt Hawes & JB? Sounds like a whole lot of conclusion jumping.

The copyright line reads: "That Was No Lady," "Withering Heights," "The Wish" and "Rog 2000 vs. the Sog" © 1974, 1975 Charlton Publications Inc. "The Coming of the Gang" © 1974 CPL Gang Publications. "How to Draw Rogie 2000" © 1982 John Byrne. The character Rog 2000 © 1982 John Byrne. Assuming that's correct--whoever bought Charlton would own the stories Charlton published but John would own the character.

You saying there wasn't doesn't make it true. And it's funny how you now remember what happened..... and still got it wrong. No conclusion jumping about what happened, I was there and you weren't.

It was fun to watch Byrne pontificate about the beauty of work for hire and how stupid the guy was for asking a question of who owned Rog 2000...... until Byrne remembered he did own him. Then it was just a matter of a little stealth editing to make it appear Byrne never said he didn't. No big deal except it's one of Byrne's little tricks when someone catches him in a lie or making a mistake.

Why don't you explain to me the demerit system Byrne has set up for his board members and how many strikes you're allowed before you're banned. How many strikes did Brian Talley and Ari Shapiro accumulate before they were shown the door? Whoops, more conclusion jumping.....

JB never denied saying (in a past interview) that he thought he didn't own Rog2000. As I stated, when Glenn Watson thought he had one up on JB based on the old interview, it turns out that he did not. At the time of the old interview, as I stated, JB apparently thought he no longer owned Rog2000. Turns out that he was wrong...in the old interview. So, when he later stated that the rights to Rog2000 were never in question...he was right & not lying...which was Glenn Watson's point.

Definitely a jumped conclusion with the first sentence...As well as the 2nd sentence. As far as to what caused those two individuals to lose their membership over there? I wasn't aware that Brian Talley lost his membership & I was never able to get a response from a moderator over at JBF regarding Aric Shapiro. So I guess you'll just have to...uh oh...jump to conclusions.
