Only at the John Byrne Forum could a remembrance of Veterans Day turn into the following pissing match.

To me, it means honoring the sacrifice, no matter how small, that our veterans made in the support of our country, whether during peacetime or during war. As a veteran, I would like to thank all of my fellow veterans for their service and sacrifice. Thank you

Scott K. Daggett
U.S. Army (1986-1990)
Combat Medical Specialist (91-A)

A reminder of my grandfather that died somewhere in Europe in 1942 and never really knew my mother, born 3 years earlier. My grandmother was apparently destroyed by his death, and passed on nearly no details to my mom, so we know next to nothing about him.

To grandfather and all the men and women that have served and still serve to protect the US, Canada, UK and elsewhere, you have my thanks and support.

Classy way for people to make this about THEM instead of about the people this day is supposed to honor.

Veterans Day is for VETERANS.
Memorial Day is for the DEAD.
Armed Forces Day is for CURRENT SOLDIERS.

As a relative of two formerly living veterans, it really irritates me when people turn Memorial Day & Veterans Day into a "support the troops" thing.

Heh heh heh! laugh

I'm waiting to see if Byrne uses this thread as an opportunity to complain again that Jim Shooter was mean to him 28 years ago. Or to explain his 15 rules for the proper use of superhero names ("Spidey" = disrespection!).

Okay, let's make this about me.

I am a veteran, and every Veterans Day I receive a letter from the corporate headquarters of the company I work for saying they've donated $25,000 in my name to a military hospital support agency. And I don't even get the day off. How about give them *24* grand and give me the day off?!?

Jackasses.

Seriously?! Wow. I don't think I've ever heard of such a thing.

Well, that's what the letter says anyway. I have no way of knowing if they really did.

Har!

In reality, that's $25,000 on hookers, booze and slot machines in Vegas for the weekend. Your bosses thank you for your service.

It's the Byrne Board doing what it does it best - being pedantic.

Yeah and Flag Day is for the FLAG people! Not Independence Day!

The battle continues on that JBF thread over yellow ribbons and whether or not the people who display them are shallow ass-hats.

Probably the guy who originally wished everyone a good Veterans Day is sorry he opened his mouth.

Have they gotten to Canadian holidays yet, the whole Armistice Day vs Remembrance Day, argument could blow the whole thread wide open!
