As loathe as I am to agree with Paul, I have to partially acknowledge that he might be right about something. Byrne's writing on the She-Hulk book was fun and somewhat breezy, and probably is up there with his best writing.

Byrne's later DC work -- BLOOD OF THE DEMON and DOOM PATROL -- didn't impress me. Admittedly, I only looked at it, I didn't read it every month. But the stiffness and formulaic style that I think has plagued much of his artwork in recent years very much was on display in those two books.
Still, as I've often said, even mediocre Byrne is better than a lot of the stuff published by Marvel and DC, no question.

We've been setting the bar awfully low lately, haven't we?

On BLOOD OF THE DEMON, I'll say that Byrne sometimes seemed to channel some other influences -- Jack Kirby and Walt Simonson, to name two -- so that did add something to the mix.
I could be wrong about this, of course, but at least one DEMON cover by Byrne didn't look like Byrne to me at first, it looked like Simonson, and in a good way. Not a bad influence to have.

I think the MTU with Spidey and Thor was awesome.
