Whew! Byrne reaches out to his forum members for help and gets disappointed... REALLY FAST! Poor newcomer Barbara Ward learns quickly how things work over there...

I saw that and I'm surprised he didn't just delete the whole thread instead of locking it for all to view. First thing that came to mind before i even read the first reply was why didn't he just take a picture? He asks a question to which he doesn't know the answer and thinks that his Legion of Swooners will come to his aide with what--the answer?

Me too.

It's human nature.

And most people might have replied that they, "just didn't think of it at the time" or "hey, that would have been a good idea." Not this guy.

He was being a bit contradictory as well, wasn't he?
In his first post he mentions they were only lettered, but he also mentions light doodles in the way of "art". I imagine from his point of view he was supplying enough info, but geez, he's wound too tight sometimes. IMO, these people were actually willing to help.

Maybe he felt ganged up on by those dern foreigners? cry

It looked like everyone was about the fall all over themselves and ask questions and take wild guess and truly want to help him and he saw it as more of a potential for idiotic questions and stupid guesses to which he wouldn't be any closer to getting the answer

Byrne at his finest, to be sure. Though, I confess to being a little disappointed. I was expecting that after all that time on good behavior, when he finally let loose it would be a full on volcano of pent up rudeness. As it is, it's just his regular amount of rudeness.

And hey, Paul, let me be the first to welcome you to the dark side. Feel the power flow through you, fulfill your destiny young Skywalker!

Here's another nice example of Byrne's rudeness to foreigners, in this thread:

Topic: Giffen's Justice League

A few other members weigh in pro and con, then Byrne says:

Then a poster from Austria makes the mistake of having a different opinion.

Another poster mounts a mild defense of Thorben:

(estimate based on comments in the Total Recall topic.)

And Thorben concurs:

BTW in German-speaking countries comics usually got released years later. So when I read JLI that must've been in 1989 or 1990. I think they didn't even completely release it, so I missed the decrease of quality people wrote about in this thread.

It's not so much about being "too old", it was just that I couldn't get into the old "Gerechtigkeitsliga", as it was called here. I like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash and all of them, but as team it did never clicked .

Probably one of the reasons was that Superman was nowhere to be seen. Before that I was always thinking "Superman could solve this alone, why the JL?".

Byrne doesn't comment again over the next four pages of the topic. (Just kidding about the foreigners thing, BTW. Byrne seems to treat people of all nations the same.)
