I think that Conan sketch is okay. But there are a few funny things about that thread: http://www.byrnerobotics.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=36280&PN=2&totPosts=121)the first comment after the original post praises Byrne specifically for his ideosyncratic obsession with filling the page, and how well he has done it in this case. Byrne sure has them trained well over there. 2)The thread has been locked, because it wasn't posted in the right part of the forum. If they aren't trained well enough, we'll have to slap them a few more times. 3)The art had been posted previously in this thread: http://www.byrnerobotics.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=34492&PN=2&totPosts=60where it was paired with a Supergirl sketch, which we have discussed here already as being an even worse example of poor perspective and/or anatomy.

A few thoughts on this Supergirl... 1. Byrne's managed to avoid the Joker face he's been giving his smiling women lately but we do get his usual Sue Storm with a puppy dog nose. 2. Once again we see that Byrne should not ink himself ...especially if he's going to insist on using cheap markers and brush pens. His line weights are all over the place. 3. Supergirl's contrail looks like he tried using a french curve for part of it and then said, "The Hell with it!" and freehanded the rest. 4. That right arm...! My God! How did that ever look right to him???

3. Mon dieu, what is this, "French wave" you say? Ha! A french curve is a flat plastic curved shape that artists use as a template to help them draw "straight" curved lines. Think of it as a curved straight edge.

I am not really a fan of Buscema Conan and the pic looks similar to that style or rendition, but ultimately I don't think the arm looks THAT horrible.
Can we move on to the next argument? Nah, I want to stick with this one. Buscema's Conan, when he was on top of his game, was a delight to behold. This is just a quick drawing to get a few bucks and to my eyes has not been done with any care and attention i.e. professionalism. That arm is shonky. Now, who's going to buy the new Next Men comics when they come out? I'm not as I think they'll be shit. The Amazing Kreskin you are most definitely not & you'd need his fake abilities to discern just how quick JB drew that image. Also, eyes certainly can never tell whether or not any care and/or attention went into the work in that piece. It's a fact that comic book artists rush a drawing sometimes - either to make a deadline or just because they are hacking it. But it is also apparently a fact that experienced comic book readers who have amassed a lifetime of experience of reading comics and studying the art are simply incapable of making an educated guess about whether a piece of artwork was rushed or not. Now, of course, I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that Byrne bashed this picture in a couple of hours. Just as I'm pretty sure that many of the covers Joe Kubert did for DC comics back in the 70s were drawn rather quickly - of course, many of these were very good, some not so (see some of his Kamandi covers.) Perhaps Paul, you could go to the Byrne site and ask the man himself. If so, make sure you phrase it correctly. I won't hold my breath.
