While there are many parts of your post that I agree with, to a certain extent, I totally disagree with equating a quick drawing with being bashed, which is a derogatory term (you certainly aren't trying to be complimentary). Absolutely nothing wrong with drawing an image in a short amount of time, but trying to imply that the image was bashed out is a foolish thing to assume without direct personal knowledge.

I note that when you mention Joe Kubert you are able to use the term drawn rather quickly, but when you mention JB you need to use the term bashed. Not cool, but also not unexpected.

And in regards to asking JB a question on behalf of someone else...I don't usually play messenger boy. Any reason why you can't communicate with JB yourself...oh wait...never mind.

Hey, Paul, that's a fair point you make about bashed out vs. drawn rather quickly.

I suspect that Carmen, with over a thousand posts under his (her?) belt will either lie low or be along to apologize shortly.

"Am I the only one..." This is one that Byrne loathes. I recall a list of phrases Byrne was sick and tired of hearing ant that one was at the top of his list. It was a new years resolution he put out to the board. Don't quote me on that one but I know he hates that particular one.

Well, Carmen should've read the rules... Oh right, it's not there. Posters are supposed to already know that, just like they should know automatically which comic book movies are banned from discussion.

This little bit of nitpickery is ironic since it comes so soon after Byrne's recent "Picking your battles" thread. You'd think that someone who is so particular about language and phrasing would just stay away from message boards, but I guess the call of the podium is just too strong. Perhaps when he first started out on message boards, he expected everyone to speak just like he does.

This reminds me of one the earliest problems I had with Byrne's work and that was his scripting. His dialogue never seemed natural to me. It always seemed stilted and overly formal. Some of this I chalked up to the expository needs of comic book dialogue, but a lot of it just sounded very far off from how real people speak naturally and it kept getting worse. Then I met the man and I realized "My God! That's how he really talks!"

Uh-oh! It sounds like Poor Lars is at it again. I'm not sure I understand what the Hell he's going on about... and from the replies he's getting, I'm not alone... but he's alluding to the Mickey Mouse incident... I think. Either way, I don't expect this thread to hang around long:

this fellow Lars writes mostly in ways I cannot follow. I'd actually just ignore him without informing him before hand.

I think Lars' intentions are positive. I believe that he's trying to express an opinion pretty much about his own inability (through a lack of English communication skills) to get a point across properly & he seems to be asking for others to at least TRY not to react too harshly towards him. Sounds fair enough, but a few dweebs over there are indeed acting a bit too harshly (if not a tad immaturely).

Lars seems like a good guy to me...though I still think there is absolutely no reason to call him Poor Lars. smirk
