Poor Lars... In retrospect, I have to wonder if he even understood just how condescending and belittling Byrne was towards him... and over Mickey Mouse! I hadn't realized what difficulty he had with English. Now this makes that incident seem even more cruel. It was like Byrne snapped at a retarded child.

LOL! I don't imagine you even begin to understand how insulting you appear to be with equating those that have difficulty with English & the mentally challenged (how many will swing at THAT easy one?).

Nah. If I really wanted to be insulting I'd threaten them with putting them on my ignore list for a few days.

That would be a low blow indeed.

No. I said insulting...not accommodating.

You know, I have really tried to give Byrne the benefit of the doubt and resist Erik Larsen's description of him as "a dumb guy who thinks he's a smart guy," a quote that was brought up earlier in this thread.

Then I see his debate tactics in that Stephen Hawking thread where his whole argument is based on stubbornness, very literal biblical interpretations, and religious extremism. He actually argues against keeping an open mind.

Plus when it comes to physics, he's a tremendous name-dropper and comes across as a guy who's knowledge of the subject is based on some articles he's skimmed in Omni magazine.

LOL! Erik Larsen is one of the LAST individuals you EVER want to go to for an unbiased opinion of JB.

And absolutely nothing wrong with name-dropping. Shows that JB does his research.

JB's debate tactics, in this particular instance, involve a more scientific approach & that is certainly far more open-minded than the religious approach.

JB summed it up best as follows (typo included)...

In the end, this "debate" always plays out the same way -- "God" is not an answer, "God" is another question, but one that refuses to be asked.

If God created the Univers, who or what created God?

Without an answer -- a real answer -- to that, there is no point beyond where we invariably get bogged down. Skeptics invoke reason, believers invoke fairy stories, and never the twain shall meet.

Whoever said it, the quote can be considered on its own merit. As I said, I've always dismissed it but Byrne has really done his best to live up to it.

That research is probably being done in the waiting room of a dentist's office.

That's his trump card, huh? Oofah!
