His avatar image links from Byrne's site. He's just trying to goad us over there.

Mr. Byrne: You have said that when you draw characters you look at the current 'model' of the character for references. What was the current model you looked at when you were drawing Jimmy Olsen on your recent Action Comics run with Gail Simone. He looked like a 13 year old with a camera. I could have sworn that during that run the other people drawing Jimmy were drawing him in in 20's. Thanks in advance for the answer!

JB: If I may be a bit personal: You mentioned about 6 months ago that you were seeing a woman. Are you still with her or did you broom her to the curb? Or vice versa? No offense, but I'm going to assume that you are better at the drawing board than you are in bed just b/c you spend more time honing that craft than the other.

Touchy subject, JB, but I know you can handle it so here goes:
You get a little rough around the edges when fans and admirers ask you how long a commission took to do. You reply with something like: "It took as long as it took. If I say how long it took, people would think that I didn't take my time and rushed it."

Fair enough. However, not telling people like myself may force them to come to their own conclusions on how long it took to draw, say, a one figure/no background piece and sell it for whatever your standard commision price is for that type of drawing.

There is no doubt that because you have mastered your craft, that something like the above example probably only takes you ten to fifteen minutes to do. And that's perfectly fine. You should be able to say screw what people think, walk your path and answer the goddam question regarding how long it took you to draw something. Screw 'em I say...if they can't handle how long it really took you to do something, they have bigger issues than you. So...
My question: How long (on average) does it take you to do a single character pose/no background (your specialty!)?

JB: Sorry if this has been asked but I checked the FAQ's and didn't see anything on it...feel free to delete...here we go:

I love the anecdotes you have of why you left titles early (especially when it has to do with editor conflict)but I also find it very telling when you hear the other side of the story.

Tom Brevoort told an interesting diddy about your second run on the Hulk and about him having a heckuva time telling you that what you wanted to do re:Hulks origin and Igor being a skrull or something like that wasn't really a good idea so let you go with it by labling it a Chapter One story. I don't have the link in front of me.

My Question: What do you think of Glenn Greenberg as an editor (and once again frequent poster on your board)?

JB: You usually take people to task or make a general comment on a group of posters when they post something that is a little close minded. I don't have any examples to support that but here is a current one that does:
Mike O'Brien made a comment that said

" I don't like having kids cartoons in the home. I don't have kids, so... you know - it's just a creepy move. There's no reason for them to be there.

http://byrnerobotics.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=32431&PN=1&totPosts=20

Why didn't you call him to task on that? If that doesnt' scream somethings not right I don't know what does!

But, Emo Phillips isn't funny. Oh, and he was around 25 years ago. I remember seeing his act on "HA!" or the other cable comedy network before they merged and became Comedy Central.

Al,
My avatar links from Byrne Robotics because one of my firewalls doesn't let me link it here from home. I have to disable it just to post here.
Of course, you won't believe me so, feel free to really let go and allow your paranoia to carry you away...

Emo Philips first started making TV appearances in 1986 (23 years ago). His first cable special was in 1987 (22 years ago). The HA! Network of which you speak launched in 1990 (19 years ago). The "other cable comedy network," CTV, launched in 1991 (18 years ago). Ergo, you are wrong.

You are also wrong that he isn't funny. You're just not smart enough to get it.

And I really don't care why your avatar is linked from Byrne's site. That you do, however, shows where your head is.

So I missed his "debut" by 2 years. Big deal.
As to the avatar issue - I was just providing you with an explanation, plus you DO care where my avatar comes from. I think your goading comment shows where YOUR head is.
Lastly, you are incorrect. It is because of my superior intellect that Emo in incapable of making me laugh. However, in deference to you, I shall visit unfunnyguywithawhinyvoiceandpageboyhaircutzlistercomic.com.
