I'm sure you did. Of course nothing short of Fred literally posting "I stopped enjoying my dream book because of JB's uncalled for rudeness" will convince you of Fred's plainly evident disappointment. You don't have to be a Lee Nail to see it.

And of course, as with Poor Lars, even if Fred were thrilled to have his moment littered with Byrne's nagging editorials, it still doesn't change the fact that Byrne is more interested in succumbing to his oral diarrhea than he is in simply congratulating a guy on getting something he always wanted.

Fred is very respectful of JB's opinion. And even if he disagrees with it (and it's obvious by his continued posts) it seems as though Fred (the ONE person who SHOULD be offended) is able to post with a positive vibe.

Poor Fred. cry

Fred doesn't want go get banned.

Ergo, he won't push Byrne.

Simple mathematcs.

Who in their right mind WANTS to get banned from anywhere?

Fred handled it in the best way possible. He knows JB's opinion on the matter & he respects that opinion. Some choosing to read that as anything other than Fred being a mature individual just displays a pessimistic attitude.

Fred continues to maintain a positive outlook about his purchase, regardless of JB's opinions. It's certainly better than Fred reacting as certain detractors WANT Fred to react. Fred's by far the better man in this debacle. Better than me (because I would react differently...nothing over-the-top, but definitely Sarcasm 101 would more than likely be the course I would take), better than certain detractors (who want it blown WAY out of proportion...as usual), & better than JB (who probably should have left well enough alone after giving his initial opinion).

Great sketch, JB!

Man, it's great to see you put all this effort into these when your rule is you don't want to know who it's for so you don't show favoritism in what you draw. Oh, wait, it's for your buddy Jim Warden. That explains ALOT.

He damn well better be! If not, Fred can go and talk to Poor Lars about what happens when you disagree with ol' JB!

Yeah! Damn it! It was Fred's dream that got crapped on! Why should the rest of us care?

He shut up and took it. I wonder if he'll ever share the acquisition of another slabbed dream book on that forum ever again.

As with Poor Lars, we once again see maturity being equated with passively swallowing a big bucket-full of Byrne's rudeness.

Whoops! Relatively new member Anthony Warlow stepped into it arousing this lesson on Phrases JB Doesn't Like...

I guess I will go to my grave without successfully convincing some people to stop using phrases like "What, no love for ________?" So trite. So boring. And such a fricking pain in the ass when I bust my hump on a piece like this, and that's the comment someone has to offer.
sigh

On a side note, I remember one of these commission piece threads from a couple of years ago ...it may have been the one where Byrne drew a wacky Mary Marvel with a twisted head and one guy (another young freshman poster) posted the commission piece with the head corrected in photoshop. As you might imagine, Byrne did not agree with the change. He went on to explain that he discouraged negative criticisms in the commission threads because he never wanted the purchaser of the commission to feel bad about the piece he'd just bought or to feel it was compromised in any way.

While this of course just invites pages and pages of blind gushing praise and little else ...and really that's what those threads are famous for... I have to commend Byrne for showing some degree of sensitivity towards his clients.

It's just too bad that same sensitivity couldn't be extended to a guy who buys his Holy Grail of a comic book!

In the same thread, Bryne shows a Kirby page he traded for the commission and says:

"Art Lesson for the Growers of Roses:.."

Now apart from inside Byrne's head, does anyone else use this phrase?
