I remember that. Jemas wrote some sort of owl-themed Batman and Robin knock-off set in the Ultimate Universe. I forgot that title even existed. I remember right from the get-go it was crippled with lateness problems. I don't think it lasted long at all.

That was Marville & it was awfulle (although the artwork by M.D. Bright was nice...as expected). It parodied Smallville...or it tried to. UGH!

That was the U-Decide event & IIRC Captain Marvel bashed the hell-O out of the competition (which included Marville & Ultimate Adventures).

The thing I recall about Ultimate Adventures (which I did NOT read) was that it took almost a year & a half to publish 6 issues (yes, it was solicited as a monthly). It was written by Ron Zimmerman with art by Duncan Fegredo (who later went on to do some Hellboy stuff).

Anywho, I was never surprised by the outcome.

I wonder if Bill Jemas ever took that pie in the face (which was one of the stipulations for the loser)?

Here's one to watch as Rob Liefield and Erik Larsen will get blasted repeatedly by the Faithful for blaspheming against their idol:

Thread starter Bill Hood asks this question in his initial post:

"I'm sorry, but if NEXT MEN is a "failed" 20 year old book...why are we still talking about it 20 years from last print?"

In all fairness, I don't know if Next Men can be called a failed book or not but it can't be exempt from that status just because it's still being talked about twenty years later. People will still talk about Marcel's US-1 and that sure wasn't any kind of success!

Byrne, upon learning of the death of cartoonist and vocal Christian, Johnny Hart...

"First I've heard, obviously. Wish I could say it saddens me more than it does."

From this thread...

Note further down the thread, Byrne takes advantage of another opportunity to show off a piece of original Charles Shultz artwork from his own collection. Byrne hates to have people in his house but he does love to show off his stuff. Here we again see why a message board he controls is a fulfillment of yet another of his needs.

So JB is not as saddened as he would normally be by the death of someone who apparently believed that "Jews and Muslims who don't accept Jesus will burn in Hell" & that "homosexuality is the handiwork of Satan."

And where did you ever learn that JB "hates to have people in his house"?

And what EXACTLY are these needs that you believe the JBF fulfills for JB?

Yeah, I can't see what's so notable about Byrne's statement regards Hart.

Reminds me of when a link was posted to a story about a Star Wars fan who had spent a lot of money on a Star Wars collection.

That one was a bit much even for Al Cook, which is really saying something.

It looks like Byrne has finally started using a brush instead of those crappy markers he's been touting for so long:

http://www.byrnerobotics.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=37116&PN=1&TPN=1

The finished product looks so much more professional with the brush, I'm surprised it took him this long to make the switch.

JB:
I checked the FAQ's and recent threads and couldn't find anything on this topic. Please forgive me if it has been asked as I didn't see it:
You are vocal about how Marvel and DC comics don't target kids with their comics anymore and if you had it your way they would. Yet you are putting out Next Men and it will have suggested for mature readers on it. Can you...oh, I don't know...pick a side and clarify your stance?
Thanks!
Love your latest Wolvie commission!
