Ah, thanks, I didn't get that. That is a bit more intolerant on Byrne's part.

I guess it could fall under the rule "Do Not start thread discussing or promoting new books/titles JB has not worked on. Use 'Pull List' and/or 'What Did You Read' threads for this." But Alpha Flight is a title that Byrne has worked on in the past, so does it apply to that? Does he often lock threads talking about new versions of FF, or X-Men, or Superman? Or does he just have a special animus against any mention of non-Byrne Alpha Flight?

Yeah, following all the rules over there is a tough job, that's for sure. I'm glad I don't have to do it.

Because he is a control freak.
But if he don't like to see books discussed on his message board that he doesn't work on, he got a point. It's not that unusual for a creator.

Yeah. Baby steps.

Which other threads would you recommend? Maybe one of those by that steel: A long departed Hero guy?

Early in this thread, Byrne once again rolls out that old story about how he HAD to quit Captain America in support of his friend, Roger Stern, who had a problem with an editorial decree. I suppose he imagines himself as coming off nobly in that incident but it just reeks of another situation where he babyishly quits abruptly. If this is a model of how loyalty and friendship are supposed to work, I sure hope all of my friends at work never have problems with our boss. I'd hate to have to quit every time someone else gets pissed off and quits.

"Hi Honey. I'm home!"

"What are you doing home so early?"

"Bad news, Sweetie. Joe Shmoe got into a fight with Mr. Slate and quit so I had to quit too. What's for dinner?"

More deep theological insight from Byrne in this thread...

http://www.byrnerobotics.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=38070&PN=1&totPosts=90

...when the Reverend John says...

" The God of the Bible is a malicious prick who delights in torturing his creations."

In light of the Frank Lauro funeral situation, this thread also offers a contender for "Most Ironic Post Award" when Bill Simko asked...

"Do they protest funerals of their own members?"

If that's the case, the standards for enforcing the rule are anybody's guess. As I write this post, the front page of the John Byrne Forum has got threads on Kirby's Demon, the Lee/Kirby FF, Stern/Romita Spider-Man, McDuffie Fantastic Four, and Elfquest.

It all boils down to "It's Byrne's board so what Byrne says goes!," which is absolutely his right but these land mines of the spontaneously generated rules and decrees does fly in the face of an earlier assertion that their rules are clearly listed and everyone knows them."Hey, JB, remember the lesson you learned about Jim Shooter and how he expected his rules to go into effect the moment he thought of them? It seemed like you weren't too happy with that then..."

It's all once again another situation where Byrne could easily avoid living up to his reputation simply by stepping back and doing nothing. When it comes to message boards, they should adopt a more Jeffersonian outlook. "The message board which governs the least, governs the best." If Byrne didn't care for another thread about Alpha Flight, be it Marvel's latest version or his own, he simply could have just ignored it.

I can understand the protests & the fact that some of the rules that crop up from time to time are practically sneak attacks, for lack of a better term.

Bendrix pretty much has it. JB is a control freak, but this is not news.

I like his niche forums. Particularly the star wars and star trek discussions. The knowledge on both those topics that is shared there is pretty interesting stuff. I'm more of a trek fan ala shatner and his crew. Never got into the next generations stuff. I like the original trilogy and would love to see the episode 7 8 and 9 made with the original cast. The music section is a waste of band with.
